O/S Daily Saturday 19 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Bright sunny start to the day, air is cool each morning though until it warms up. I have wash load ready to peg out shortly.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions and rice for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. The menfolk have decided on a a takeaway indian but from the SM - we have found something that we like, much nicer and cheaper than a proper takeaway.
I just got done what was needed yesterday - I did some menu planning which I'm finding helpful.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, I am lounging in bed with my lemon and ginger tea, and my senior cat has just joined me so I can't get up just yet.....
Yesterday was a long day at work but I am off for the weekend.
Today's plans - change bedlinen on both beds and put a whites wash on. Walk with dog, it's our time. Fresh air, maybe a bit of sunshine, exercise.
Son going to York on the train at lunchtime, to celebrate a friend's birthday. Fortunately the new restrictions don't prevent him from doing that, but he is still going to be very careful.
I will have the place to myself so can have a good clean and tidy up. Choir practice, a bit of exercise to a Bollywood dance tutorial. Maybe start making elderberry syrup for the winter, that will clear some space in the freezer.
Have a good day everybody.One life - your life - live it!11 -
Good morning, very blustery here and I think I will go for a walk in a little while. Other than that, not much to report! I do have weeding and ironing to do and a baby dress to knit so will get on with those over the weekend.
Hope everyone has a decent day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning
Looks like another nice day on the cards here
Well it seems we are back in lockdown from Tuesday so a wild weekend is on the books of course. I was thinking a couple of racous parties tonight maybe a rave tomorrow then a protest march on MondayGood job the virus has been told not to bother anyone till Tues
Asda man just delivered and the poor love was stressed. Apparently the orders are going through the roof again and lots of panic buyingMy order was ok with just one sub better than the one I ordered and missing eggs. Would seem the shelves have been cleared out of eggs completely. No cake for me this week then. Looks like loo rollgate all over again in my area
Plans for the day are pretty loose need to empty the dishwasher and have a general tidy but nothing urgent. Food will be a fakeaway doner kebab with pittas and all the salad bits.
Have a good day all11 -
Morning all.
I'm trying not to look at the news. Here in my untidy little bungalow it's 'eyes down and get on with it.'
Tomorrow I'm going to my family for my DGD's 8th birthday. She was supposed to be having a sleepover and party but that was hastily scrambled together for last weekend. As DS2 said, The few little girls who couldnt have a party this weekend will be cosily ensconced together in the classroom tomorrow, like they were last week.
Today is scheduled for walking down to the village shop for the paper and returning home for lots of coffee and doing all the sudocus, crosswords and sundry other puzzles in it.
My sort of day.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them more.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.12 -
Morning all, it's cooler here and very windy.I have put a load in the wm, I thought I'd done all that for a week but no, some naughty elf had filled it up again.I am going for my rabies shot flu jab this morning and I'm a bit apprehensive about it, everyone has to queue up outside and go in ten at a time. I think I'll be wearing a jacket in this wind and it should go nicely with my mask, D.i.c.k.Turpin likeOn my return I shall get my trusty long handled brush out and dust behind the TV as I saw a few dust bunnies there late last night and I couldn't be bothered to chase them.DD will probably call this afternoon to collect a jar of HM sweet pickled beetroot, she's been suffering with a cold all week and had lots of children absent with it too. She will collect some money for DGD, who has also made it onto the school council, with the pair of them now on the council they'll be taking over the school
They are costing me a fortune but then I can't take it with me, as my Nan used to say "there are no pockets in a shroud".
Nelski I have an Asda shop coming Tues, doesn't sound too good with missing items again. And loo roll really ? Strangely enough DD mentioned to me about buying that yesterday, I wonder if she'd heard something or is she psychic ?Butterfly Brain was it you who was going for an op ? Hope it went ahead and all is well.MeanMarie I hope you're making a speedy recovery.Take care all, stay safe and wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Morning all
Nice and bright and sunny here but with a good breeze I have a wash on the go and will hang that out today. House work day today but it doesn't take long with the three of us doing a bit each.
Will get the dogs out for a good walk later and maybe have a picnic while out. I have taken a chicken out of the freezer so will do something with that for dinner, maybe salad and new potatoes and I have the makings of coleslaw and a nice bottle of white wine
DD was sent a letter asking her to take part in a national covid test which she said yes to, she has done the test this morning and was gagging so much that she started me off we both have such a bad gag reflexshe then did the nose one which was also uncomfortable, a courier is coming to collect the test today she is sure she doesn't have it but it will be nice to know.
Right better get on with my day, have good days all xx11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC, I wish I could say I am late to the party as I have had a lie in but sadly not! I got the first bus into town for one or two bits I needed, plus further supplies of the only cat food that the Sparkly Cat now deigns to eat! All shopping now away and I have my feet up with a coffee and a bag of Digestive Choc Nibbles. Nom nom! I am still limping along so I think today will be one of continuous feet up and rest the ailing leg as much as poss.
I must have just beaten the rush with my Tesco delivery yesterday as everything came as ordered and no subs! It sounds like next week may be a different story. I thought we had seen an end to this ridiculous stockpiling. I shall be prepared.
Needless to say we are still in the never ending local lockdown here and, as suspected, the wards that had been released 2 weeks ago are now back in lockdown with us. Leeds are still avoiding it but goodness knows how as their cases are higher than round here!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. I hope the Op convalescents are making good progress. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Good morning folks. It's been a busy time here already. Been to M&S, Italian deli and Waitrose for the weekend stuff. I totally forgot to pick up an order at Waitrose so will go back tomorrow or Monday. The DW has been emptied
and toothbrush charging. After DM's visitor has left I'll stick on a washing load.
Now I just have to prepare the afternoon tea things for DM and her visitor. Seems we may have more draconian measures coming up though I wonder how effective they may be. All the university students are coming back so everywhere is really busy, it's actually nice to see from the confines of my car!I cleared out a corner of the room which had a little stuff piled up and then sprayed the carpet with moth deterrent. The sticky pads are still catching the blighters. There's plenty of reading to be done here this afternoon once things quieten down. Happy Saturday to all.9 -
Back from the jab and I was right to be anxious as the social distancing was a nightmare even when in the queue outside. People stopping to talk toe to toe to those in the queue next to you ( smallish village where everyone knows everyone) and don't get me started about inside
Couples waiting in the corridor for each other and you had to pass them to get through the "out" door. I'm sad to say that they were all old fogies ( like me, but I did know better ) who you'd think would know better, however the staff were great as they were all on the ball and 4 were jabbing. My clothes and mask are now in the wm and a much needed coffee consumed while I'm waiting to come down off the ceiling.
TA now put your feet up and rest that leg...... Nan's orders !!Hugs to all those who are in neednan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently9 -
Morning all! Well, the wood finally arrived so it's all hands [ well, my hands] to the deck pergola pavillion, whatever! They were a lovely couple who delivered it, turns out their son runs the yard but has some problems with memory which I will remember for next time so all is forgiven. OH is off with his sister to go and see his nan who is in hospital and very poorly so he will be back tomorrow. I am having my flu shot [ rabies! snort!] today as well, masked in a queue and ready to be stabbed in the arm and when I walk to the docs I'll also take the opportunity to see if there are any bramleys left within reach then I'll be going to a different set of friends garden and then I'll come home and start slicing up the newly stripped and sanded door to make a table and play with my Kreg jig.The house is a tip because all of my tools are stored under the stairs along with everything else and because I'll be using pretty much all of them [ drill, saws, sanders] for the next few days then there's no point, in my mind, in putting them all away again yet. So everything is everywhere , including the ubiquitous loo roll stash
And there are also two old wooden tool chests in there which I have decided will be turned into side table with the addition of some legs, maybe those hairpin legs although they are getting to be a bit passé too....
I picked some blackberries on Thursday, cooked them and made two apple crumbles last night, one for us and one for the OH to take with him for his dad and sister. My sister is currently in lockdown and I was going to be going there next week so those plans are scuppered which is fine because it's more time to play with wood....And that's it for my stream of consciousness post for today and thank god I hear you say...Hope you got your op BB, and get well soon MM...TA, hope your legs improves and commiserations to lockdown people...I expect it wont be long before we join you so I'm not crowing about it...Stay safe peeples, no licking faces and keep your nonses wet and cold..Snoop dog SaturdayNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi9
