You will get the money back eventually.Ring up the HMRC and ask to be issued a tax code, have your UTR if you have one and your national insurance number to hand.Is it a new job? do you have a P45 from your previous job?Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

I very much doubt you have been on an emergency tax code. The emergency tax code is 1250L, the same code most people have.
What tax code did your new employer use?1 -
I have checked my online HMRC account...
says my tax code is BR0 -
Did you fill in a P46 (New Starter Form) or give your P45 to the new company's payroll?
It's the new company's payroll who should sort this out.
If it's HMRC saying your tax code is BR you need to call them.1 -
That is not emergency tax.RedfordML said:I have checked my online HMRC account...

Do you have another job?
Did your new employer use the BR tax code?
Have left an another employment earlier in this tax year?

I joined having left my university postgraduate. I filled out a P60, I’ve now got a number for HMRC so hopefully I can sort directly. Thanks for the advice.0

A P60 is a form issued by an employer at the end of the tax year to all in their employment at 5 April. Can you describe the form you filled in.RedfordML said:I joined having left my university postgraduate. I filled out a P60, I’ve now got a number for HMRC so hopefully I can sort directly.
