O/S Daily Thursday 17 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry and another reasonable day forecast. Have a wash load to peg out in a mo.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early,I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken in a murshroom sauce and HM egg and veg fried rice. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but can organise that today.
I'll be heading to SM in a while and have a few chores to do.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc.
I think it's set to be a decent day so the washing is out. It's bin day so I've put some of the contents of pots in as they have just about gone over, it's like saying goodbye to summer!
Not a lot happening here, just plodding along but work seems to have settled a bit so it's not quite so manic.
Hope you're all well and have a good day. Take care. XX10 -
Morning everyone
Just having breakfast as I'll have to go to work soon. Hope it's a bit warmer today - it was really cold yesterday.
We're going to be in local lockdown from tomorrow - they're announcing the details later. If people would just follow the rules we'd not need to have more restrictions.
Better get sorted . Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all Chilly but sunny with a clear blue sky I am going to the beds today i think and the rest of the blinds as i didn't finish it off yesterday . SIL to be should have his results for the covid test today or tomorrow DD says he is resting comfortably in bed still this morning . No more news from me it just seems to be same old same old at the moment I need to stop watching the news as its just doom and gloom . Right going to pull my socks up and get on sausage casserole for dinner . Have a good day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini10

Morning folks. No washing happening here! There's a notion of some ironing hovering in the background which is slightly worrying. 😀. The very heavy curtains from the dining room are going back up next week. Two lovely neighbours / friends have offered to do the task so I need to iron the cotton linings which have been in a cupboard since February. Mind you, the curtains are still in my car, it was the easiest place to keep them when they came back from the dry-cleaners. The boot is also full of stuff for a CS.
Yesterday I managed to completely jam one of the pocket zips on my jacket. The lining is so fine it just wouldn't move at all. The cleaner tried to free it too with no joy. Then she told me about a little alterations shop not far away so I took myself off there. One woman surrounded by acres of threads and clothes and one sewing machine. She freed the jam in about three minutes and only charged me one pound. I insisted that she took more and will use her again. What a find. 😇
Things were really busy outside with unusually heavy traffic, then I remembered that it's Freshers Week again. Lots of parents dropping off lots of students. I'm now happy about life coming back but also worried about the spread of the virus.Today I've an M&S order to collect and one to return. That'll get me out.I hope that everyone is doing OK. Great to see MM posting last night.Happy Thursday to all.11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. My internet was on and off, off and on earlier but seems to have settled down now. A lovely start here with sun forecast. Yesterday it was gloomy and windy all day. It didn't lift the spirits much.
For the first time in 6 months DD and the DGDs are coming for tea indoors. As part of our bubble this is allowed but now they are all back at school I am wondering whether I am doing the right thing. Up to now we have just been having little meet ups in the garden when the weather permitted. You will be able to guess what has been requested for tea! The Bolognese is gently simmering away nicely. Throughout the summer they were having occasional door step pick ups to eat at home.
We should be getting used to this way of life now but it doesn't get any easier does it. I see that the North East are now in danger of local restrictions. We are now 7 weeks into the restrictions with no end in sight unfortunately. The cases are still high but it's hardly surprising when you hear of some of the rule breakers having big parties etc. Some people are just so selfish thinking only of their own enjoyment.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe. MM good to hear you are recovering and being looked after. x

Morning
Shove up a bit on the lockdown bench seems we will be joining you later today. Cases in my town are now well in the top ten of the highest in country. Difficult not to see a connection with kids going back as 2 weeks ago there were no cases.
Nothing special in the agenda for today just the usual house stuff ...my cup floweth over with excitement
Burgers on the plan for tonight so just need to make some up so another easy one.
Have a good day all

Morning all.
Gers, I could really make use of that miracle woman. Sorry that it's a bit far to trail my bits of mending up there from the Isle of Wight.
Oh my goodness, TA, you making the Bolognese Bake for your DGDs tea is a real return to normality . I think we have to treasure these precious moments because we don't know when they might be snatched away from us again.
My DGD is 8 this Sunday and the usual sleep over and riotous party for innumerable small girls is on the back burner. For this relief, much thanks. Covoid restrictions are not all bad. She is pretty fed up though.
Today I will be continuing my lacklustre attempts to instil a modicum of order into chez moi. Where is Bewitched Samantha's twitchy nose when you need it?
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be re-filled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of offialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome should become bankrupt.
People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance. (Cicero - in 55BC)
Truly there is nothing new under the sun.
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.12 -
Morning all! Beautiful morning outside, I'm already showered and ready to face the day. Who knew that buggering around on the internet when I get up could slow me down that much? Yes, it's taken me this long to find out. Todays delights are pick up some masonry paint from FBMP that I saw last night so the OH can finish off the bit of wall that's left behind the greenhouse, go see a garden social friend and give her a jasmine plant and then go and see the wood guy who has yet again failed to deliver the wood. One last chance then I'll just go to a big DIY store instead. There's only so much I'm willing to help local economy if local economy can't get of it's arris and both literally and figuratively actually deliver the goods. Rant over.I've been watching Rick Stein in India on dmax and as is the way when watching cookery programs we have had a curry the last couple of nights, made with chuck together ingredients so that has made inroads into the freezer, using up the last of my frozen homegrown spinach and the courgettes and tomatoes that came out of the garden. I'm liking this way of cooking and the OH is not complaining because he likes spicy food and it also means my herbs and spices are getting a bashing so not lingering around while I don't use them.Good to hear you're recovering well MM. TA, well, at least the spag bog bake is some kind of normality. Camelot, I want to clear the garden for winter but the damn beans are still going strong! Right, hello to the readers along, hope you're staying in one piece, welcome to wednesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

Morning all, it's still sunny here, Yay !!I've woken with my whole body aching, even the aches have aches and poor Mr Fix It had a dreadful night with knee pain. Why do we say we can't do things and still go ahead and then overdo it ? Today we will be taking things extremely easy but I hope no-one knocks the door as it will take us at least half an hour to get up to answerI am one super proud Nan today as yesterday DGS was made house captain and also elected as the schools council representative, he should do well as he has a very caring nature and is always helping othersI have to bake a loaf and I'll also cook some of the mince beef mountain, I will make a big pot of spag sauce in the slow cooker and I think we'll have some spag bol for tea. I came back from Dad's with a black bag full of baby toys so I'll wash those, sort and check them and if they're suitable put them in a cs bag. They were DGS's and he's now 11 so I don't think he will want to play with them again. I also brought home an enamel pie dish. I tried to get Dad to part with some more rusty dishes but failed, so goodness knows what I will do with all the stuff after he's gone as his home is like an Aladdin's Cave !Right I need more coffee, lots of it !!Take care all, stay safe, keep well and stay sane in lockdown.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10
