Has anyone on here got a together mortgage with Northern Rock taken out in 2004 or around that time?

  • I took one out in 2005. Do you need some help?
  • Hi thanks for replying. Yes it would be great to get some help. I got a charge put on my property which I am now trying to sort out and I want to try to fight this with then or get the debt reduced or try to get the ombudsman to help by the way of unfair lending but its been so long and I have lost my original mortgage agreement so I was wanting to see what the contract is saying to see if they may have charged me Early redemption charge and fees etc because I switched lenders on sold my house and that's when they secured an unsecured loan on my new property, I would like to get a copy of the agreements / terms and conditions of this together mortgage from around that time (obviously you can hide you person name and address etc but I would love to get a scanned copy of these details.

Or maybe it would be easier to ask you if you have anything on your agreement that says there is an early resumption charge and up to how many years does this last and were you on a fixed interest rate etc? this would be a huge help and maybe I can help you too if you are still stuck with this together mortgage with those very dodgy lenders.

You do know that the success rates for complaints like that is in the single digits?

I was wanting to see what the contract is saying to see if they may have charged me Early redemption charge and fees etc because I switched lenders on sold my house and that's when they secured an unsecured loan on my new property,

ERCs are not an issue with the FOS either.

The ERCs tended to reflect the deal period.

You should state when in 2004 you bought the mortgage.   Mortgages were not regulated until October 2004.  If you bought the mortgage before that date, it is unregulated and you will not have access to the FOS if you used an estate agent or broker (which is how most of these were bought).    The other significance is that the agreements/contract offer letters changed with regulation.

  • I’ve just got shot of mine when I sold my house in August, mine was taken out in July 2006.
My ERC only applied up to the end of my fixed term which was 5 years. The mortgage had an exit fee of £250 but this wasn’t an ERC and I knew up front that this would be the case when I either moved lender or sold the house.
You mention you sold the property, did you not clear the unsecured loan as well as the mortgage? Even so, my understanding of the terms was that you could do that and continue paying something ridiculous like 12% interest on the loan as a stand alone product. Presumably the charge on your new property was done by the legacy lender rather than NR themselves? Why not give them a quick call and ask for a copy of the loan agreement, if it is Whistletree I have always found them fairly pleasant and helpful, unlike NRAM who gave me the Spanish Inquisition when I rang to just ask for a balance 😂

  • Did you fully repay everything when you paid off your mortgage? The Together mortgage was made up of 2 parts, the mortgage which was secured against your property and then an unsecured loan. The unsecured loan wouldn't need repaying to switch to a new lender or sell the house but would continue and I think the interest rate doubled if this was the case.
