Discouraging spiders

It's my least favourite time of year. I am terrified of spiders and between the cat bringing them in through the cat flap, and the ones that magically appear, I am constantly on alert once it gets dark. Had the biggest one yet run across the kitchen floor whilst I was washing up; I dread to think how long it was in the house for as it wasn't accompanied by a cat. My husband has previously suggested hypnotherapy or some other treatment to lessen my fear, but I don't want to face it because I'd really rather not think about them.
I can't do anything about the ones the cat brings in, unless I lock the cat flap after dark, but is there anything that works to discourage the ones that come in of their own accord?

I oh my god, I am the same! I Have been known to refuse to go into my bedroom for days if there is one spotted in there. Ive told my husband he is not to die before me as what will I do when the monsters appear and I’m on my own! I too have thought about hypnotherapy but don’t know much about it and would it cure me.....? I’ve tried all the sprays, confers etc, yet they still insist on terrorising me. 😰1

Having been woken up the other night by my son to remove a spider from his room, I bought him a spider catcher. Last night the spider 'sat' on the spider catcher handle so he couldn't use it5

Try cookers in the corners of the room. Actually, DON'T try cookers in the corners of the room, wretched predictive text. Have a go with conkers.
That is supposed to put spiders off. I've not tried it myself as I have no problem with spiders. I'm bigger than they are.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Conkers? Ha! I am yet to meet a spider the is scared off by conkers.
I did try but the evil brutes just walked over them.
I suppose I could have thrown the conkers at the spiders, but they were so huge they'd have lobbed them back at meI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.5 -

Again an advocate of conkers. I have no idea if they actually work but sticking them here and there quietens down my mind and my niece and I always have fun collecting them. We had an early windfall about a month ago
I don't like spiders but my tolerance has increased with age. The exception is the whopping great big black domestic spiders that thrive at this time of the year. So far not a problem in my home but were quite wretched where I previously was - always a risk when bring the laundry come September! No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.2 -
Reminds me of an incident at work a few years ago.
I was in the loo which were in cubicles when the girl in the next one to me started screaming and crying. I didnt know what to think.
However as she had pulled her jeans down, there was a huge flattened spider stuck to the top of her leg.

I don't mind small ones (less than 1/2 inch leg to leg) but anything else is fair game for the cat, kids or hubby to kill - taking outside isn't good enough!July 2024 GC £0.00/£400
