Employer granting additional PTO?

Hi,
I'm working from home for an American company that announced they were doing a partial shutdown for Christmas week. All American employees will be granted additional paid time off for that week, including some working on visas here in the UK. However UK employees have been told they can take it as unpaid time off, because UK employment law doesn't allow additional paid time off beyond the 25 days in our contracts.
I've been looking around for verification for this, but can only find information regarding minimum PTO requirements. Has anyone ever been granted additional paid leave?

That not true. You can have as much paid leave as they want to give you.I believe American leave is a lot less than UK e.g just two weeks, so it is possible they are happy to increase USA leave but not UK Leave as that is already quite generous.1

Just confirming you are getting the UK legal minimum of 28 days (including BHs) not 25?

I've worked with American companies before and they look at you incredulously when you tell them how much leave UK staff will get, even just statutory, so I suspect the US staff get a few weeks less anyway and they think the UK staff get enough as it is!

So you get 33 days paid annual leave. I imagine your American counterparts would be pretty narked if they knew that!
If you don't want to take a week unpaid, why don't you just use some of your A/L allowance?0 -
The amricans working here, are they permanently based here - in which case subject to the same annual leave entitlements?0
