PRA Group won't accept any offers

I had 4 credit cards with Barclaycard that were sold to PRA Group back in 2018. I have tried to partially settle the accounts with PRA on several occasions by offering around 40% - 50% of the balance via email and telephone, but I have always been told that I need to settle the full amount as they won't accept any partial settlements.

I made another offer a few days ago and the lady at PRA Group stated that when they took over the account Barclaycard stated that PRA Group should not accept any offers.

I did not know Barclaycard could make this stipulation as I understood that once they sell on the debt it is nothing more to do with them. This explains why PRA Group has never accepted an offer, even 90% of the debt (which I don't have as I only have around 40 - 50% available).

I know PRA does not have to accept an offer but I find it strange that my account has been flagged so that no offers are accepted. Has anyone else come across this problem and is there anything I can do about it?

Many thanks.

  • I forgot to say that I am making very minimal payments via an Active Payment Plan which will take about 100 years to pay off the debts!
  • I don't have the funds to be able to do that.

Then I guess the only other option is to continue making 'very minimal payments via an Active Payment Plan which will take about 100 years to pay off the debts!'

PRA will and do accept settlement offers. The barclaycard story is nonsense.

Make your offer in writing (old fashioned letter) and require a response by the same route.

I will do that and let you know the outcome.

PRA purchased 3 debt accounts of mine some years back. I was then in a DMP and following the experience of many here on this forum I sent off CCA requests.  All came back unenforceable and that was some 2 1/2 years ago.  I've paid zero to them since and it took a good 18 mths before they started offering me discounts to settle the debts.

It's a long game with PRA.. they do accept settlement offers, so whatever the CS person at PRA told you is a bunch of baloney. There's no magic number or timescale, they'll settle when they are good and ready - so your best bet is to stop paying them that token payment, send off CCA requests and start playing the long game.

I did send off some CCA requests a while back and two of the accounts were unenforceable and two ( the two largest accounts!) were enforceable. I am in an Active Payment Plan with all four accounts paying the smallest amount that I can, which is why they will take 83 years to pay off at this rate! If I stopped paying on the two unenforceable accounts would that effect the other two enforceable accounts, or isn't that recommended?

Firstly, have to checked with any legal beagle as to whether the documents you received from PRA proves their enforceability?  They may well be, but I'd always get that checked with people who know their stuff.

As for the UE's - stop paying them and focus on those others.  You may find, at some point going forward, that they'll be willing to accept settlement offers over time.  It is a bit of a waiting game.
  • I have had a debt with them since 2007, which was initially around £10k.  I have been paying £40 per month since then.  I have made numerous requests for a settlement over the years, both in writing and on the phone.  They have always offered me a settlement but no better than 95% of the outstanding amount.  I have rejected them all.  If anyone has done better, perhaps they could share how they did it as I would love to get rid of this and can now afford to do so.

Thanks for your reply. How do I check the enforceability of the documents from PRA?
