I need an extra £300 to £500 a month and was looking at peopleperhour.com as a possibility.
I have worked in marketing for around 6 years and am in a senior role, so think I have the skills suited to a lot of what is advertised.
Has anyone done any work through the site and if so do you have any advice / suggestions? I tried using Upwork but found a lot of the buyers wanted me to do the work 9-5 (which I can't due to my job) and now you have to pay to even bid on projects.

Yes, I used this when I was between role in the finance sector. Takes a little while to get up to speed in terms of winning jobs regularly but it's a great platform.

Thanks a lot! Does it take quite a while to get up to speed? Even an extra £100 - £150 a month would make all the difference.

If you have got examples of work, proof of qualifications etc that you can upload that will help you. Get yourself signed up & remember to tailor each bid to the person needing work done, nothing worse than a standard cut & paste bid.

Thanks a lot again! Final question - what's a realistic amount to charge per hour? Varies pretty wildly on the site. My actual salary works out around £20 per hour so was hoping I could stick to, or improve upon, that.

I have hired from people per hour and what I found was that first world hourly rates are pushed down by people claiming to do the same thing from a country that has far lower living costs. I have used some designers in Argentina, Phillines, India and Ukraine and thy have charged $10 for what I would expect to pay £70 for in the UK. With the exception of the girl in Argentina ($20) the standard has not been as good as I have from UK suppliers but I think you need to at least half your rate on here to get any work particularly when you start and have no reviews.

I've used both PeoplePerHour and Fiverr. My advise would be to drop your prices to start and build up feedback. I can't remember what what PPH took, but Fiverr takes 20%, so build that in to you pricing. When you say marketing, what would you be looking to offer on PPH?
