When Ocado recently switched from supplying products from Waitrose to M&S does anyone know what happened to all the Waitrose products that it had in stock?
I hope they weren't just binned.

  • Their corporate website explains how they deal with unsellable stock, particularly how they handle food.

I read in the newspaper that any Waitrose products that Ocado had left after the switch went to food banks. I guess there was not a lot, they will have run stocks of non-perishables down and I think their business model will mean less waste than a traditional supermarket.

Many thanks, I've managed to track down that newspaper article which stated "While Waitrose is revving mopeds and delivery bikes, Ocado will close two of its three giant robot-run warehouses on bank holiday Monday so it can ship out remaining Waitrose products to food banks and the food redistributor Company Shop."

They also mentioned on twitter that at least some of the frozen food was sold back to Waitrose. They were discounting it in the last week in August so they had less to shift.
