20 gb mp3 player £45 delivered

What's the deal?

Amazon's selling an mp3 player with a huge 20gb of storage space (enough for around 5000 songs) for £45 with free delivery, instead of (its apparent RRP) £99.99.

How can I get one?

Just click through the following link. If you haven't got an Amazon account you'll need to set one up. To get the free postage, be sure to select 'super saver delivery' when asked.

What player is it?

It's an ATMT Storm. Never heard of it? Me either, but it's the cheapest 20gb player I've seen yet. Songs are stored on a 1.8" internal hard drive, which you can also use to store other data.

It works like an external drive or USB memory stick, so you don't need special software to put music on it; just drag your files in and you're away. It supports Windows or Mac, and uses USB 2.0, meaning it's quick to transfer files to.

It also packs a rechargeable lithium battery offering 'up to 13 hours' (though likely closer to 8 hours) playback.

However, as it's built on a budget, it can't tick all the boxes. Build quality isn't too great, and it only has a monochrome (but backlit) screen, so if you want video capability this isn't the player for you.

Its hard drive means it's a bit bulky and heavy, and it's unlikely to win any design awards either. Plus, if you want to get the best out of it sound-wise, you'll have to do away with the supplied headphones and get some better quality ones.

Other options:

If you don't need to carry 20gb of music around with you everywhere, then look into flash memory based players. Whilst these tend to have far less storage capacity, they're also usually smaller, lighter and cheaper, and often include video too.
If you've spotted a similar player for less, please post the deal below and I'll add it to this post.

A lot of the recent reviews of this player are not very good. It seems people get them, initially are happy with it, leave good reviews, then have problems, then leave bad reviews!

    None left, nothing to see!
  • £2.30 per GB for an iPod 80GB, this one is £2.25 per GB, so not really great value if the build quality is poor! Also the issue you'll find with a cheap MP3 player with anything bigger than a gig or two is that the GUI (Graphical User Interface) and how the music can be organised and searched through becomes really really important! Making the iPods touch wheel very very useful!

If you have enough music to fill this it's gonna be painful finding your music, if you don't why not buy a smaller higher quality player like a Creative Zen?

I have owned one for around 18 months, while the capacity is great for the money, and I paid £105 from Amazon at the time, sound is poor, you need decent cans to get the benefit. The real minus point is the battery. Mine only gives around 2 hrs on full charge, the replacement is £35 from ATMT, as the cost of a new player is only £9 I did not bother and have replaced the item with a new player.
