When applying for a mortgage, do child maintenence payments to ex have to be listed as an expese and how much do these payments affect how much of a mortgage that can be given?

Yes they do.0

They do have to be declared and they will have differing impacts based on the whole case. £200 a month is a lot more to someone on £15k a year compared to someone on £50k a year.1

Thanks, I see you also commented on my other post regarding extra income. I'm looking to eventually apply for a mortgage but feel paying 500 per month child maintenance to my ex from my bank account is going to take down how much I can get from bank. Would it be better for me to find a second job that pays cash to cover the 500 and just make deposits into exs account as with kids name and pocket money as references to avoid it being classed as an official deduction?Deleted_User said:They do have to be declared and they will have differing impacts based on the whole case. £200 a month is a lot more to someone on £15k a year compared to someone on £50k a year.0 -
Even if its not official csa money and you just transfer money to your ex for your kids it's still included. This is what my partner does for his kids and it was included. You need to speak to a mortgage broker to talk through all your finances and see what your options are.

Thanks. Can I ask if you have any tips on how you dealt with this situation. I'm sure like me, you're partner felt terrible that his child maintenance payments were bringing down any mortgage offer. I had considered a second job to try making up some of it but would also mean having to give ex more money even though she has refused to let me see my kids even with my court order and lawyer has said basically nothing can be done about thisGem_M90 said:Even if its not official csa money and you just transfer money to your ex for your kids it's still included. You have to declare and no one on here will sanction mortgage fraud.Weetod said:i

money for maintenance and seeing your kids are completely separate in courts eyes however galling it is that your ex behaves like this
its not nice at all how some of these women behave0 -
We ended up in a totally different situation as he had adverse credit as well on his file, so after speaking to a broker we were advised to go for a deal in my name alone as we'd probably get a better rate with me as a solo applicant as we would have together.Weetod said:

Honestly the best advice anyone on here can give you is book an appointment with an independent mortgage advisor, not an appointment at a bank. They all give out free advice and will look at all your details and your finances and tell you straight if they'll be able to find you a deal or not. You can do that before you've even looked at houses or anything to see where you stand. They'll break it all down for you and tell you exactly what you can expect to get and what it will cost you.First Time Buyer
