Promoted at work but no new contract

My friend has worked as a carer in a residential nursing home for about three years. She was promoted to a senior carer and was promoted to deputy manager in April. She received a letter of notification of the job offer but has never received a new contract.
The new role is salaried so no overtime pay is given for the 24hrs plus that she is expected to work as extra.
Does her old contact still stand until a new one is issued?

If those details about the overtime were in the letter confirming the new job, then those are her new contractual terms. No need to issue a new contract every time something changes: a letter confirming details is all that's needed.

I was never given a new written contract on any promotion during my working life.  As Savvy_Sue says, as long as the detail relevant to the new role are in the notification letter, nothing more is necessary.  If the content of the letter doesn't cover all the changes your friend definitely needs to act to get clarification.
  • It's a variation of existing terms.

I'd be more concerned re the 24hrs additional work!  What is the standard working week and what would this additional amount to?
  • I've had this at a couple of different companies and never received a whole new contract. I just got given a letter saying something like "as of 1st January your title will be Senior X, your salary will be X, your notice period increases to X. No other terms and conditions are changed."  (it's the bit in italics that references the rest of the existing contract which is still valid).
