Really, the main benefits of using the S&S wrapper while investing, compared to not using a tax-protective wrapper at all, are as Ifts could have said: no UK taxes or recordkeeping and the ability for a surviving spouse to 'wrap up' the same amount of assets as you held in their own ISA wrapper when you pass on.Steve182 said:

I was horrified to see that Mr trump deducted 15% from my first dividend payment! It's a US company and he does not recognise our ISAs as a tax shelter. Simple solution - move shares from ISA to SIPP where they are safe from Mr Trump!
You're right that it's not a defence against taxation by a foreign country on foreign sourced income, so if you don't need flexibility of access a pension could be more useful. Though of course the OP wouldn't get that 'protection' if they invested in S&S outside a tax wrapper either, so it's no worse than investing unwrapped, and it's not a defence they would get (or need) if they continued in line with their original thread post to simply put their money in a bank account to earn savings interest.
