New Job

I been offered a new job, same grade as mine in another government department. The only downside to the job is, I will be on a helpline and I am not the most confident person on the phone. In my current job, my new manager is already starting to performance manage people even though she hasn’t even been there a full month yet and she is always sick. I want to leave but nervous about leaving.

Not a great time to look for a new job at the moment because of covid 19. I would stay put. You can learn to talk on the phone and with experience you will get used to it. Talking on the phone is easier than talking face to face as the other person can't see you.
I often make faces when I am on the phone because I get bored if they put you on hold our take too long to explain about something

Which do you see as being the greater problem, speaking confident and knowledgeably on the phone or having your performance scrutinised and managed? You often get new management trying to show how strong they are by implementing change whether or not it is needed or beneficial. Many quickly calm down again.

Why were you offered a new job - did you apply, or have you expressed a wish to change your current role?Harrybrown100121 said:I been offered a new job, same grade as mine in another government department. She's been there for less than a month and is 'always sick' - so you've hardly seen her and she's hardly seen you. Sounds like a massive over-reaction on your part, based on anxiety rather than fact (which is probably pretty understandable in today's uncertain climate). In my current job, my new manager is already starting to performance manage people even though she hasn’t even been there a full month yet and she is always sick.
If you don't think you are great on the phone, why jump until you're pushed? According to another of your posts you had a new manager who started in May, so clearly managers turn over more quickly than their subordinates!1 -
Many thanks for your advice. I decided to stay put and look for something I really want to do. I was looking to leave as I was getting fed up so decided to apply for any job I saw.0

Could I ask something? Basically I did not hit my target last month, could I getperformance managed? I was also covering someone work as they were away for a week. I had to try to do my own work and their job as well. I normally meet my target but due to covering.0

Really you can be performance managed for anything as long as it’s not discriminatory.Harrybrown100121 said:Could I ask something?
