I'd rather start married life with a 'work-in-progress' garden, than an extra £50k of debt, on top of a £217K mortgage and the other unspecified debt that you wish to consolidate.

The money you would use to pay the secured loan why not save that amount in a avings account ?

Once bills are paid how much do you think will be left to pay the secured loan ?

If you were to get a secured loan and at some point you have an accident meaning you cant work mwaning less is coming in how would the secured loan be paid ?

If you were to miss a payment your home is at risk.

A wedddng doesnt need to be extravagant especially in todays world, cant have many attending, your limited where you can go for a honeymoon.

Not that I've ever bought a new build, but isn't the garden typically sold in a decent condition? Just wondering what further investment could urgently be needed there...

Normally just a bit of topsoil and turf. OP may envisage decks, patios, landscaped beds etc...

Your giving some too much credit, our Bellway/Ashberry Homes new build had a dusting of top soil and turf that went brown.

You only get the minimum slabbed area for seating and maybe a path, no beds, unless  you pay extra for it.
  • Yeah, standard for our development is just top soil (no turf) and a 1-slab-depth path along the back of the house!
  • Probably some nice established dandelions and a ton of bindweed thrown in for free.
Nothing to see here, move along.
