Freehold / Leasehold Title

Hello, I am in the process of buying a house that I have been assured is freehold. However when obtaining the copies of the titles from Land Registry I have been advised by my solicitor that I am purchasing both the Freehold and Leasehold titles for the house. I understood that when a freehold was purchased the title was then amended to a freehold title and the leasehold then became obselete. Has anyone come across this before. As if stands my mortgage agreement and contract have both title numbers stated on them and I just wondered if this does happen sometimes. The house I am selling is freehold and does have a merged title from when the previous owner purchased the freehold so I'm completely new to this. Any help or advice would be really appreciated, thanks in advance

Yes, it does happen sometimes. It's nothing to worry about. I think occasionally there can be some concerns about extinguishing the leasehold if it includes some rights which aren't in the freehold. Your solicitor can explain further if needed.
