we have a £2700 3 piece leather suite from DFS we are having problems with getting satisfactory repairs done ,or replacement arm chairs under the sale of goods act. The suite is on an interest free loan ,would it be acceptable to stop payments until satisfactory outcome ?

  • No.
  • I don't think so, you'll just incur late payment penalties because of poor credit conduct - which will go against you when you need to apply for any form of credit based item.
Make a nuisance of yourself via  written, emailed, phoned, instore, presences - at least this won't get financial institutions flagging you as uncreditworthy.

DFS have nothing to do with the loan, it will be through a totally seperate finance company.  Stopping paying that will achieve nothing with your complaint.

As mentioned, the finance is separate to the sofa, what will happen is you will get a black mark against you and the suite still wont be sorted or be anywhere fixed.

A couple of questions for you OP.
How old is the suite or when did you buy it ?
    What is the issue ?
What have you tried to get it resolved ?
Have you had any communication at all from dfs ?

You’ll ruin your credit history and the loan is provided by a third party not DFS

I assume you're talking about a loan taken out as part of a purchase, so you never received the money?
In which case you should be able to contact the loan company and make a section 75 claim.
That may cause DFS to leap into action, although they may say you haven't given DFS enough time to resolve.
I'm not sure that saying that this is the third suite you've had problems with is helpful, they may draw the conclusion that you're doing something on purpose. I kinda wonder why you'd keep putting yourself through it.

If you had so many problems with DFS quality why go back? Before lockdown we decided to replace our suite and did a tour of the Heart Foundation shops picked up a very good quality suite for very little money.
