IHR

Hello, I am currently being considered for IHR due to various mental health illnesses and I can’t get my head around the pension amounts so can someone please help. I’m 40 years old and o joined in 2008 so that should be 7 years on 2006 and 5 on 2015. Top rate PC is 40000 and I’m Met but not sure if that matters.
If someone could please break down the amounts that would be really great. Also the SMP alluded to me having me I’ll prior to joining but I discussed this on my recruitment medical. Are they likely to argue if IHR is recorded by the SMP and stop any pension being paid? Many thanks

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Thanks for pointing that out as I copied and pasted. It’s about ill health retirement from the police. If anyone knows details of the police pension schemes0

Hi.
Your post is quite old now, but just in case others are seeking help re this, the following may help:
Re ill health police Pensions, to get a ball-park figure on how much you will receive (lump sum & pension) use the online calculator that your pension provider has on their site.it will show what you'd get currently, then 30 years service then at your police pensionable age (schemes for 2006 & 2015 that age is 60)
If you leave voluntarily before you've reached 60, you will get a reduced pension as you will have penalties. However, if you leave due to ill health, you won't have your pension reduced, just the figure around the figures on the online calculator.
In the 2006 & 2015 Pensions scheme, there are 2 tiers of ill health retirement: tier 1 means you can not, due to your health, continue to work as a police officer. With this pension, see above paragraph.
A tier 2 pension (also called upper teir) is where you are too ill to be a police officer AND you are too ill for regular emoluments elsewhere. Regular employment means 30 hours a week or more. You receive the same amount as a tier 1 officer, (see above) and in addition, you will receive an enhanced pension.
The SMP may have eluded to you having a medical condition at the start of your service, but he or she will look only at your ability to do the job at the point he or she asks the set questions he or she need to establish if you are able to continue being a police officer. The SMP is there on behalf of the Chief Constable / Commissioner. Having the illness a few years back has no bearing on you getting an ill health pension (it may support you will have it for years, even up until your 60!) It wint help if you plan to seek an Injury on Duty award after you retire.
Hope that helps!0
