O/S Daily Friday 4 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light, dry start to the day, but air is cool again.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.
Diner last night was steak, chips, peas and onion rings, all enjoyed as meat was good and I managed to cook it just right, we had toblerone dessert. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having.
Yesterday I wasn't as productive as I wanted but did get some chores done, so I will try to get some more done today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It was a very warm night and I was tossing and turning as well which made me warmer still. So a night of dozing fitfully and silly o'clock wakening is making me feel like a wet rag. There's too much going round in my head just now.
The usual Friday Tidy will be to do today and, as the DGDs were here yesterday, there was no head start doing the kitchen and bathroom. It was lovely to have them here again but I am not getting complacent because, if the cases hereabouts continue to rise, who knows what restrictions may be thrown at us next. We are not expecting good news in today's announcement for us Northerners.
A neighbour called yesterday to give me some tomatoes from his greenhouse and also to give me the sad news of the death (not Covid related) of one of our neighbours. He had battled the dreaded C for a few years. His wife has agoraphobia so it will be especially hard for her to cope with whilst no-one is allowed to visit her and she has to go through it all alone.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of one. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning everyone
I didn't have too bad a night so I feel ok this morning. I have a busy day (for me anyway) planned as my sister from Wales is coming to visit us with her two youngest daughters. I have knitted them a teddy and a unicorn so I hope they don't argue about which one they want.
My poor Bobby went to the vets yesterday as he has been in pain with his ear and he has a bacterial infection which needed a swab and some antibiotics. After the eye watering bill was paid we are on short rations this month. I'm not too worried as we have plenty of food in the freezers, I just have to be creative about how we use it up.
My niece's baby is due in a couple of weeks and although they are pretty sure it's a girl I have played safe with a unisex llama tummy time toy. Everyone else has gone mad buying pink, frilly dresses etc so I am sure the baby will be fine for clothes for a long while yet.
TA, I'm so glad you had a good visit from your grand daughters, I hope you don't get caught up in the next lockdown either. Sorry to hear about your neighbour, I live in dread of anything happening to Steve for much the same reasons as your neighbour's wife.
Well, I need to go and start tidying up a bit before my sister arrives. I might even get dressed in honour of the occasion. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing, take care xx

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Good morning folks. It's almost sunny here though we are threatened with ninja showers and wind. I really want to go for an early walk but can't in case DM wakes when I'm gone and panics. She panics very easily. I'm definitely an early morning person and begin to fade by 2pm.My stash of books is growing so I must start to read faster than I buy.
Happy Friday to everyone.13 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Overcast here but not raining so am on the second lot of washing, two more to go but I shan't get all of it done today. I did my Friday Tidy on Wednesday as the chaps were out and I'm not doing it again. I shall potter in the garden instead and carry on making baby cardigans for a friend's new baby.
We had a delivery from Mr m*rrisons two weeks ago and when DS wanted some flour (not his fancy artisan Al bread flour) he opened the new plain flour and it has bugs in, so not best pleased, expect OH will complain.
I really should begin my pottering so hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all
Its a bit dull here this morning with rain due later on, dd has appointments all morning and is then getting her nails done on the way onto the office to conduct an interview, her colleague is going on maternity leave soon and they are looking for a replacement.
I am off this evening for a 'book club' meeting we will start off in the garden and then move indoors once it gets cold the friend who is hosting has a big house so we can socially distance correctly there will be wine involved but it wont be too late a night as we all like to be in early ish.
We went and got a bit of shopping in yesterday which was surprisingly cheap, I am trying to have a few weeks of cutting down on groceries as things seem to have got more expensive and the shop is costing more and more every time.
Will have a good tidy round this morning and hopefully have a nap later on.
Have good days all xx14 -
Morning all. I have taken the car to be MOT'd and have walked back. Now I'm pretty much exhausted. Cup of tea and a sit down on the cards...The wood didn't turn up yesterday but he did say one type was due in yesterday so it probably didn't appear. I'll ring him later otherwise we'll be digging holes for nothing. I also got the postcrete yesterday when I was coming back from something I can't even remember where I went. There was a guy huffing behind me about the queue, the length of the queue, the time the queue was taking. I'd already let some guy in front of me who only had one thing so I wasn't going to do that again no matter how much he muttered and huffed and puffed. Karma struck just before we got to the tills anyway as he realised he'd left his wallet in the his van, cue much swearing and stamping of feet. Myself and the two girls behind him had a giggle at that.So the car will be ready at half five ish so I'll be making the trek back there again. I'm just so unfit, my new daily regime is going to have to be a long walk every day, I don't want to end up like my mother stuck in a chair for ten years before I die. My ankle is a bit odd, it feels like it needs to be clicked [been like that for weeks] if you know what I mean but I can't click it right so it keeps collapsing under me every now and again, my right leg hurts when I walk and my left one goes numb so I was quite comically lurching about while walking back and I wondered how could something so simple get so bloody difficult. I think I'm having a bad day....Enough moaning, onto the good stuff. Italian lesson, put magic cupboard on [ how come the top is always full before the bottom or are we just fiendish tea and coffee drinkers] , wipe down tops and start chopping beans. DIdn't do it yesterday, cba'd, but those jars won't fill themselves. As a side note, I accidentally bought a 6kg bag of sugar when I was ordering online [didn't check size, just clicked add to basket...] and boy has that come in handy for the jams and stuff. It's still going strong and I might check the prices and just do that again instead of buying one kilo bags.Hey all reading along, stay safe out there or in there....fainting Friday...:)Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi11

Hello all, a bit late today but we have been out gallivanting
Actually we took the car for a run and it was very busy everywhere, especially the M4 which was busier than busy
We didn't stop though.
I had a strange nights sleep with lots of weird dreams, none of which made any sense, so I'm a bit senseless today. Add into the mix I've taken the wrong amount of meds this morning ( took tonights heavy dose instead of my morning lighter one ) and now I'm more zombie than normal ! Oh well nothing needs doing today. After sorting my freezers yesterday, today I shall try to write a future shopping list for a freezer top up, but I need to defrost both first before I buy any more goods, we're pretty well stocked up on store cupboard items. Dad said last night that he wanted to go to his beloved Aldis next week, but then he wants to get his shopping done online with ours. That's fine by me, but I did try to get him to have his own account and explained how it worked even though I would do all the ordering etc, but he refused. He still doesn't understand it after me explaining it over and over and even now he believes that I can see the items on the shelves ! I think he's a bit frightened that someone will steal all the money from his account. It's very sad to be that afraid and trust no-one.Our 'vanning friends have gone to Cornwall, the lady had breast cancer about 2 years ago, so she and her DH decided to try to go away for a week, but she's not happy to be out and about in towns/shops even though they are masked up. She was at rock bottom as she also lost her DM about 2 weeks ago and she missed the funeral ( she's from Liverpool ) and she was unable to attend, they are a big family of 13 children. They will probably be in lockdown again when they come home too as their borough, on the other side of our mountain, has had 50 cases in the past week, we have been very lucky here in our borough.Right enough from the Welsh waffler, I've probably chewed your ears off sufficiently for todayTA condolences to your neighbour, it must be very difficult for her. Fingers crossed for a good outcome with the lockdown news etc.RedRuby enjoy the " book club " although I don't suppose there will be much talking about any books !Dumpling enjoy the visit from your sister.Take care all, stay safe and keep wellnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -

Afternoon all,I went in town early, only 1 other person on the bus, and 2 coming back. I nipped in Sainsb..ys as I didnt have an online delivery this week and needed a top up for the weekend. Luckily it's quite near the bus station. I had a look in tkmax too as it's close, & got some bird food - the smaller ones are visiting the new bird table now.TA, thanks, the local restrictions might be here for a bit for us, our MP says the spike in cases was due to someone not isolating when he came back from abroad, and then going on a pub crawl! I really hope yours is lifted soon, all fingers crossedHugs to the 'bad day gang'I think I'll make coq au vin for tea for a change.Enjoy seeing your sister dumplingSeems to have got cooler and windier in the last hour or so, so I dont think I'll be going for a walk. Have a good day all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)11
