My wife has just found out that she should have been getting paid London Weighting but wasn't. She has claimed the back pay but all she has been given is from the beginning of the year, appx 6 months worth. She has been working there for 20 plus years. I don't expect they will agree to paying the back pay for that far back but I would like to know what she is entitled to claim for and how to go about it.

If she is in a union, she should ask for their assistance.

I am assuming her employer is a large organisation, what is their reason for not paying LW back to the start of her employment? Has LW been applicable for all the years she has worked there?

How did she find out? What does her contract state about pay and London weighting?

Is she individually salaried or working on a fixed pay grade system?

Extra pay for working in London. Many nationwide employers offer it above their usual pay rates to offset some of the higher cost of living working in the capital.

It's "weight" (ie heavier/more pay) paid in respect of some employment in London.  There are refinements for Inner and Outer boroughs too - you can find this in NHS scales.
