AAT 2 - oversubscribed qualification or worth taking?

I was recently made redundant and am wondering whether to take an AAT 2 qualification.  Will it mean anything or in today's current market is experience more important?

That will depend upon whether an AAT 2 qualification is recognised by employers. I realise that it's probably cheaper to study for AAT qualifications but you might be better off considering an NVQ, as their qualifications are accredited and recognised by most employers in the UK.

Experience is very important of course but if you want to earn more and go on to study further and improve your employment opportunities, a recognised qualification can only help. The current job market is VERY competitive so anything you can do to improve your CV will be a good thing.

But I'd really do some more research if I were you because there are grants and loans you can apply for that will help you to get accredited qualifications.

AAT is great for giving you a good grounding in all accounting matters.  I think if you complete all levels it will be more beneficial to you than just level 2.  If you complete it also gives you exemptions from a chartered accountant qualification if you wish to go down that route.  In the accounting world, AAT is highly regarded.

AAT is more widely recognised than NVQ's in accountancy, but agree levels 2, 3 & 4 would be best.
