O/S Daily Wednesday 2 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cool, dry start to the day.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was using up LO's of burgers and sausages with some chips and a side of hot quiche. Tonight we'll be having chicken which I remembered to defrost. I'll serve that with mash, veg and gravy.
Yesterday work was busier than it has been - so we'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Bah another silly o'clock wake up for me again. Not all bad though as I got up to a beautiful sunrise and a pleasant day is in store (before the rain returns tonight)
My bezzie bus buddy and I have devised a cunning plan for today which keeps us within the local lockdown rules. It's now a double decker bus to Skipton (to allow safer distancing) so we are off on a jaunt. We will sit one behind the other and have a wander up and down the market stalls, which are now much safer to browse since the road became temporarily traffic free. Lunch will be either outdoor dining or fish and chips enjoyed by the side of the canal. Our third bus buddy sets off for Turkey today so we asked ourselves who would be safer - her on a plane with 300 other folk or us!
DD and the girls are finally back from the caravan today after almost a month (apart from odd days for birthdays etc) and she rang to say she had booked the carvery when they get back this afternoon and did I want to join them. Ah sod's law, I don't go anywhere for months and then two opportunities arise on the same day!
Yesterday ended up a day of doing nothing apart from phone wrangling! The new phone has now got everything I want on it, where I want it. Took me ages but the ageing brain doesn't work so fast these days!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. GERS sorry to hear you are now in a similar lockdown to us. It's like living with a time bomb wondering where will be affected next. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Good morning folks. It's still not fully light here, or perhaps it's just very cloudy. Last night I slept much more like normal though I still always wake really early.Yesterday I only went out to fuel up the car and buy a paper for DM. I'm getting better at climbing stairs with my new hip, the exercises are slowly helping. The main problem now is that my muscle weary easily. Still, in the scheme of life it's only a tiny spot. The inevitable happened yesterday afternoon, restrictions on visiting and being visited reimposed for at least a week. The impact for DM is fairly hard as her only regular visitor is her Saturday friend. They have been colleagues and friends since the mid 60s. They really missed each other during lockdown and were enjoying their weekly visits. I only ever visited my friend Alan since lockdown and Camelot's garden though I was invited to dinner on Friday to old neighbours. The best laid plans of mice and men...I've no idea what today will bring, it's all weather dependent apart from a bout of online banking activity. I thought that the OpenReach engineer was coming but it turns to tomorrow, wonder if he'll still come now?Happy Wednesday to everyone.12

Morning all, a beautiful sun this morning although we are due rain later, maybe.Day 2 of DGC care today and yesterday was lovely, realised just how much we missed them. I thought I'd gone deaf at one point but no, DGD had stopped talking ! Gosh she can talk your ears off and gives running commentaries on everything. Today I shall be chained to the cooker again, it's cooked breakfast for DGS and croissants for DGD, then it's a roast lunch of chicken, roasties, veg and the must have Yorkies. SiL will collect this afternoon before they can get their teeth into any tea, however snacks are a different matter, it's on the hour, every hour on that one ! I don't know where they put it all as neither are over weight.DGD and I might bake some butter cookies this morning and do some crafting this afternoon, anything to keep her off her phone, so anyone got any ear plugs ?
DGS and Mr Fix It are x- boxing, film watching or "just chilling Nanny ". Oh to be 11 again.
Hope everyone has a good day, I'll pop back later as they are due to fall through the door about 7.45am.Take care, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Morning all
Chilly and misty out on the field behind us awake early as Molly and Jack and another dog obviously weren't on leads and the owner wanted them back this calling starts from 5.30 onwards most mornings and is getting a bit annoying now as i have my windows open it wakes me up its not going to be long before i shout back.
To all of you in lockdown again you truly have my sympathy it is just the hardest bit for all of us to cope with not seeing family or friends x
DD2 Went to Turkey in August and she said they were really hot on wearing masks on the plane even waking people up if their masks slipped whilst sleeping but I think by now the apathy is kicking in and they aren't pushing it as much.
Right shopping today I know the tip yesterday and shopping today its all happening here i may pop to the wallpaper shop as we need to paper the stair and landing , I would pop to the carpet shop but too much excitement in one day isn't good
Dinner tonight lasagne and garlic bread
Have a good day and be kind to yourselves xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Quiet on here today, I thought at first no-one had started the thread.
We went down to Laura's so that Steve could put new alarm sensors on the vulnerable ground floor windows. He'd had a check up at the dentist in the morning but doesn't need anything else doing. I must book one as well, it's about a year since my last I think.
Th Glasgow lockdown is going to affect Laura and Brian because they were going to call in on Brian's mum for a few hours on their way back from Barra. It will make a very long journey with the little one without that break.14 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but very chilly this morning, OH has gone back to work today so I have lost my partner in crime and adventurers !!
I have got a nice bit of pork to cook today so I shall do a roast with all the trimmings that will be nice for OH when he gets in from work.
It will be the usual today of tidy / clean round and then a walk with the pups, dd has a meeting all afternoon so I shall prep the dinner then.
No news on dd's house sale yet but I think it all seems to be going through smoothly they had the EPC test yesterday which you have to have when selling a house so things are happening behind the scenes.
Right better get on have good days all xx
TA enjoy your day out xx13 -
Morning
Bit grey here today (not just my hair)
Usual "not much happening" here.
Cooking here is the new excitementYesterday was a prawn and hoi sin with noodles ala James martin but to be fair his included a whole crab too which oddly Asda did haven't have in stock
Anyway the sauce was lovely so I adapted
Today its the cod and anchovy crust again with crushed potatoes and peas. Nice and easy as in the freezer
Have a good day all12 -
Morning all.
A bit late this morning as have to organise yet another of my kind neighbours who has announced he is here to cut my grass and weed my paths. I am so lucky to have 2 retired neighbours, both of whom are avid gardeners and their own small plots don't give them enough to do. I'm more than happy to lend them my overgrown, weed filled patch to play in.
As you say TA, it's the Law of Sod that after days of seeing no one, you have two invitations on the same day. Still, now your family is back you may be able to meet up with them from time to time. I can see that this winter is going to be long and difficult.
Hope the sale of your DD's house goes through smoothly RR. It seems to take ages but hopefully she will soon be able to draw a thick black line under that unhappy period of her life.
Nothing of note happening here. We seem to have a spate of car crashes around at the moment. Yesterday we had the air ambulance land in a field just up the road, to take an injured man to Southampton, and this morning a car has crashed into a house about a mile in the other direction. Don't know what is happening to drivers. Perhaps they have been off the road too long in lock down.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
You can lie down and let people walk all over you and they will still complain that you're not flat enough.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -

It will make a very long journey with the little one without that break. They could still meet in a cafe or pub, it's just house visits which are being restricted. I know that L&B won't get a rest but a wee chat with B's mum over a coffee could still happen.PS - Nicola Sturgeon was questioned about this in Parliament today and confirmed that the restrictions are guidance only without any statutory backing. This may help.

Afternoon all,Well our local lockdown ended at midnight, even though the council asked otherwise, then 12 hours later Matt H. has said it's been imposed again due to rising cases, you couldn't make it up. I was just going to book a haircut too,not had one since March. The strange thing is that we only know of 1 person who has had the virus since the start of the pandemic .Enjoy your trip out TA , sods law ehLocal lockdown rules are perhaps different in Glasgow Gers but here (North West )we are not supposed to meet inside a pub or restaurant with anyone not in your household
Hope it's not too long before your DM can meet her friend.
DGD has started school again this morning, not DGS. that's next Monday. After a fine lovely morning it's now bucketing down, glad I didn't water the hanging basket now, but did a bit of deadheading & tidying. Oh and a lot of ironing!!Not decided on tea really, it's either steak wraps or meat pie. Right better go and put the ironing away, then I'm sitting down with my kindle. Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)13
