If I’m been honest I haven’t a clue what’s going on apart from me getting frustrated by the day 😡 just wish it was sorted either way0

I’m absolutely fuming, I went onto the web chat for the HMRC to see if my payment was going to be getting released tomorrow as it is the deadline for the security checks (the 7th time it was put back) was told they are currently still doing checks, even though I was told mid July sept 8th be sorted! But apparently now it’s been put back again 😡😡 until mid October.. I asked what checks they are doing, but they wouldn’t even tell me it’s an absolute joke. They just doing what they want 😡0

You have filed 4 tax returns several years after most are normally filed.
You are expecting £1k+ refund from those returns.
You don't seem to understand what you have claimed for which has resulted in the £1k+ overpaid tax.
Yet you are surprised HMRC are taking a close look at your returns?2 -
Why on earth don't you speak to Clear Start and establish on what basis you are claiming a rebate? You might be paying them a fee for making the claim, but it's you that is responsible for paying any tax due, not them.
Why are you in Self-Assessment? You must have other sources of income than your civil service salary? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I’ll be speaking to clear start tomorrow, and in regards to claiming for the last 4 years I didn’t even know I could attempt to claim! If the numbers are correct I should have had a rebate by now anyway for each year..0

I repeat: why are you in Self-Assessment? You are a full time civil servant, you tax is paid via PAYE.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Okay OP, you've spoken to HMRC. So what did they say the company had declared on the returns? Why are you now due a refund when you weren't previously?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
excellent, because it is clear that your anger is misdirected.PaulG1974 said:I’ll be speaking to clear start tomorrow, and in regards to claiming for the last 4 years I didn’t even know I could attempt to claim! If the numbers are correct I should have had a rebate by now anyway for each year..
HMRC are quite rightly checking a large refund claim, one that you don't know the first thing about, yet you, and you alone, are the taxpayer liable for your own tax claims.
Your anger should be directed at yourself because you have failed to ask for an explanation from your accountant so you understand what is being done in your name.2 -
I don't think the OP is coming back...No free lunch, and no free laptop
