Options
Does anyone know how much a mortgage broker ought to cost? Is £400 about right? Thanks.

    FWIW mine charges 195.00
  • 300-500 is pretty standard. Look for whole of market and paid on offer only

Assuming all relatively straight forward, I reckon £500 is about the average.
A few brokers I know have upped their fees recently to around £650 due to the extra work needed on an application.

It is always a bit of a difficult question to answer though. You have the likes of L&C who do not charge a fee but the brokers are generally quite new, service is debatable and you are speaking to a call centre. We charge £500 on offer of a mortgage for a straight forward mortgage, but our fees go up to £1,495 for those who have been discharged from bankruptcy less than 3 years ago.

But we limit the amount of cases we take on, we deal with the agents and we are on hand a lot more than the likes of L&C would be.

    £400 sounds reasonable.
I charge £575 payable on application.

I paid £500 for mine. "Lifetime" fee but pay £100 admin fee if I want to reapply for another mortgage with them. Think if I just report the advice is free.
  • As everyone else is saying what theirs are - I charge £399 for standard, £499 for a bit of adverse/ more complicated e.g expat and £599 for heavier adverse. Only charge on full offer.
