Foreign income with arrears mortgage question

Options
Hello,
Just want a bit of advice.
My husband works offshore in Norway (15 years with the same company ). He is paid in Norwegian kroner to our UK bank acct.
I work here in the UK, part time and my salary isn’t that high.
We would like to move house- we tried about 5 years ago but couldn’t get approved for a mortgage due to the foreign income.
We do have some arrears from 3+ years ago however nothing newer than that and we are both debt free. We have a 25% deposit and according to all online calculators we can easily afford the amount we want to borrow based on our income.
It was very stressful the last time we tried to sell and couldn’t find anyone to lend to us. We did use a mortgage broker who works from our town but I’m not sure he was experienced in our complicated situation.
Is there a realistic chance someone would lend to us? Any advice?

Well you need to start with your credit report and see that, I would speak to the broker you have used before.
Can you clear the arrears ?

    Have you cleared the arrears?
  • Try looking at nautilus if he’s a union member.  I know they offer member benefits such as mortgage brokers so may be able to help.  We actually went with our own bank that dh banks with, it did have to go to the underwriters due to tax situation, foreign contract but uk resident for tax purposes and also being paid in usd at the time, they said yes once we jumped through all the hoops such as providing contact and things
  • Yes, all arrears occured over 3 years ago and were paid 3 years ago. We haven’t used any credit since then and all balances are 0.
I have both our credit files- we are both rated excellent if that means anything.
I’m just wondering if past arrears plus a foreign income means our situation is hopeless.
  • Arrears of what ?
  • One credit card and unfortunately our mortgage. But all was 3 + years ago and was also repaid 3 years ago.
The lender we are with now doesn’t do mortgages with Norwegian kroner salary, so they aren’t interested in porting our current mortgage and increasing the amount lent.
