    There is a name coined for his  behaviour with money ' Reckless Conservatism '
    It means he is so cautious about investing he is actually taking more of a risk than he appreciates .
    It is better of course than him blowing it all on fast cars and casinos but not ideal . Also as mentioned earlier tax issues could come more into play later in life.

    Yes! Seems quite common. He also does his tax return on the last possible day and often has to pay a fine because he has lost/ forgotten his log in details.

    Isn't it quite common in many jobs , that people's personal behaviour does not stack up with their job role ?
    Doctors who have unhealthy habits , top chefs who eat junk food, family social workers whose own lives are dysfunctional etc
