hi, my daughter is 9 and for her christmas play she is going to be a mouse... hee hee dont ask, i know! anyway she has to wear black bottoms and a brown top. obviously brown isn't a very popular colour for little girls so she hasnt got any thing that colour.

if anyone knows where i could get a cheap brown top for a 9 yr old that would be great thanks :)

  • You could try matalan in the womens section, I saw various colours of tops, their size 8 seems quite small, would probably fit a 9 year old.

  • I find the charity shops brilliant for clothes for school plays, and only costing a few pence. PDSA is my favourite as the clothes are much better and dont have that "smell". (wash them anyway before use). Any ideas for 1960`s clothing for an 11 year BOY???

  • I'm pinching my hubby's ID here, but had to respond to this one...

I am a drama teacher, and so I'm frequently having to find costumes for this or that (and often for my own two kids too!) and unquestionably I have found the best place to find what you're looking for is the charity shops! As an example, I had to kit a child out with a very basic tree costume recently and I found a brown skirt and a green top almost without having to look - and for pennies.

Another treasure trove for inexpensive costume wear is ebay. In fact, my daughter needs a long skirt for a 'victorian day' and that's going to be my first port of call...

I really don't see the point in spending a lot if they're only going to wear it once or twice. Plus, it's nice to know that you're doing something to help at the same time.

Good luck in finding what you need!

You just beat me to it! Great minds think alike!

I'm actually looking for sixties clothing at the moment too - our next production is a time-travelling thing that spans several decades - the sixties being one of them. Think I'm just going to have a good look at some old photographs and see how I can best adapt what's to hand... Good luck!
  • thats what im going to do! it was all flower power and hippy wasnt it? Mind you trying to get my son into velvet bell bottoms and a flowery shirt is going to be very difficult!!!

  • I had the same problem, my little boy is going to be a camel! Tried Asda, Sainsbury's & Matalan with no joy. Found one yesterday in H&M for £3.99 in the boys section. Plain, cotton with long sleeves, unisex really and he can wear it again. Good luck

I had the same problem for my son a few years back. He was a reindeer in the christmas play and he needed brown trousers and a brown top. I trawled through loads of shops for weeks before finally finding what I was looking for in Matalan. Really pleased with myself, I purchased the items but I was horrified at the christmas play when my son was the only one in brown. The other parents hadn't found brown, so they all went in black instead.
