They are wild garlic ones. I had copied it either from this forum or another site I use that has vintage recipes on it. I didn’t use mustard powder as I didn’t have any, but they still taste nice.

    CHEESE AND WILD GARLIC SCONES

    225 grams Self-raising flour

    1 teaspoon Baking powder

    50 grams Butter

    100 grams Finely grated Cheese

30 grams Wild garlic leaves finely chopped

    1 teaspoon Dry Mustard

    ¼ teaspoon Salt

    Good pinch of Cayenne Pepper

1 Egg mixed with a tablespoon of Yogurt and enough Milk to make up to 150ml

    For the topping (optional)

    20 g Cheddar Cheese, grated

Pre-heat the oven to 220C/200C Fan

Mix the flour and baking powder and rub in the butter until it looks like breadcrumbs.

Stir in the, mustard, salt and pepper, cheese and the finely chopped wild garlic leaves.

Beat the egg in a bowl and add to the mixture, add enough milk to bring it together into a soft dough.

Dust your work surface with flour and gently pat the dough into a round about 2 cm thick, cut out your scones.

Place on a greased and floured baking tray, brush the tops with a little milk.

Sprinkle over the extra grated cheese, if using.

Bake for 10-12 minutes until the scones are golden brown.

Excuse the nauseatingly middle class question, but do you gather your own wild garlic? 😂

🤣 No - I often get it in my weekly Riverford boxes, which is why I was originally searching for what to do with too much of it.

It's great if it grows locally, I nackered my last stick blender trying to make soup from it 🤣 Pesto is the OG

I still have a whole bag of potato on my freezer made with wild garlic! I think I had a year where I was getting a bag a week for weeks on end and needed to branch out!

Ironically I’ve swapped boxes and not had any yet this year. Not seen any locally either sadly, just loads of blackberries around here.

I had some this week in my box and we had it in this: https://www.rocketgardens.co.uk/spring-sprouting-broccoli-with-wild-garlic-and-chickpeas/

With some pasta and a grating of pecorino it was a full meal. (Feeling smug because psb was homegrown- first time I’ve had success with that!) Wasn’t a fan of the scones, even if they were all the rage during lockdown!

ooh - that looks lovely. I usually get the British only boxes, but have been getting the mixed veg and fruit ones as I can get what I need slightly cheaper at least at the moment when I’m just using up stuff in the freezer.

Working at home today, so got the bread proving to cook at lunchtime (already broken into the 32kg of bread flour!) and got the washing done before dropping the kids off. Picked up a few bits at Lidl on the way back from the school run - spent £11, but no big shop this week so likely I'll need to do another top up later this week.

I discovered ys salt beef and ys bao buns in the freezer I bought to use for a nice meal. Not sure when I was waiting to use these for, but as DH was also working from home today (usually we switch around so someone is always home to pick up/drop off kids), it turns out that a regular Tuesday lunchtime is the event I was waiting for. They were served with lettuce, strings of carrot, mustard sauce and onion. Yummy! I even had a bit left over and made my sandwich for work tomorrow with some hm sourdough bread.

Dinner will be macaroni cheese with a whole cauliflower from my veg box. Dessert is the lovely fairy cakes made completely by DD (bar the oven bit, although I made her turn it on and set the timer) with chocolate buttercream icing. It is her first bake (she's 5) and she was really proud of herself. I even let her loose with my mixer!

Well done for DD, they can be so confident at such a young age these days. DD2 is basically at DD1 level when it comes to using scissors (thanks to nursery), pretty sure we didn't let DD1 go anywhere near scissors aged 3!

Weirdly I remember my mum saying that you could tell which kids went to play school before starting school and which didn’t because the ones that did go could use scissors. Obviously this was a long time ago and before nurseries existed….

DD still uses scissors backwards (point facing her) and point blank refuses to change. It’s because she was originally using right handed scissors with her left hand. I got her left handed scissors, but she refuses to use them properly. She knows best..!
