I hope they are going to count the start of your notice period as the date you told them you were going, rather than the date you decline their counter-offer?
Of course.  It is a legal document that I dated, so they have no choice.  I guess they think they have time to play with as I am on a 3 month notice period...
I think that a few of us are living vicariously through your current experiences @QueenJess. At the risk of making it about me, isn't it amazing how all the crap bosses and wannabe Alan Sugars are unwilling to use the levers that are reasonably within their control to make the lives of "valued employees" that wee bit more workable until they receive a resignation letter? ;)
Lol.  It did take me a bit by surprise.  I have no sympathy for them as I did warn my manager I would leave due to the ridiculous of this system and it is this that made me look for a new job.  It's too late as I have a much better job now, but I'm irritated that they can magically let me work from home 100% just like that.  Shows it was all a joke in the first place.  Bet you £10 they won't learn and do anything for anyone that has not yet resigned..
I hate conflict though and I'm finding this whole thing uncomfortable.  I just want to get on with handing over everything and planning a smooth exit.  And more importantly getting a final date so I can figure out what to do with my remaining holiday days and if I get time off over Xmas.
On the other side, the new job I applied for was full time, but I convinced them I am worth employing for 4 days a week instead.  That's the sort of flexibility and proper management thinking I'm after..

  • Glad you are in control over your work and career again not those about to be ex bosses!

Sometimes conflict when it comes from a place of self respect is necessary. We can all be a bit too English at times ;)

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

So I drove all the way to the office today to speak to my manager face to face.  Turned out it was very much worth it and despite me feeling like I was a therapist, they are starting to come to terms with the fact I am leaving.  We talked about various options and they are off to make a plan and hopefully come back to me with a leave date.
Thinking about a new career is such a weight off the mind and I feel so much better about myself (rather than settling with something I don't enjoy).  I've put myself last for at least the last 6 years and so I think I will be trying to do more things for myself as a kind of New Years resolution.  Not particularly money saving, but I have treated myself to some new clothes and boots (I love boots... it's my weakness :) ) as I have little left I actually wear and much of it is falling apart after not really buying anything for years.  I did buy everything second hand online though, so much cheaper than ordering new.  I probably need a few more bits, but will wait and see what the gaps are.  It was very fun though browsing online and adding things to my favourites list.
Sadly our heating has stopped working, although it's not obvious what the problem is.  All the in room touch screens have gone off, but the electric is all working and it isn't a fuse.  Managed to get someone to come out to look at it tomorrow, but who knows how long it'll be off for.  We've broken out the electric fan heaters, borrowed and oil heater from a neighbour (for DD's room as she needs a steady temperature) and are mainly huddled in a single room.  Hoping it is both simple and inexpensive to fix  :#

Great news you got to talk to them face to face and they now understand. So pleased to read you are now finally putting yourself first for a change. Yes so you should do all that work you do and all that nurturing you do. Come one take some back for yourself. Well done on the clothes too well deserved and the boots too. You can never have too many nice boots.

Hope the heating gets sorted soon, mine one broke boxing day it was a nightmare at least it is pre Xmas. Hope it is easy to fix I now pay for boiler cover just so I have someone to call out. Not cheap but peace of mind.

Today no baking happened as I've been doing other stuff and too cold in the house for the bread to rise.  Went to stock up from Sainsburys earlier and remembered why I never go to that specific shop anymore.  It used to be a regular place I went years ago, but they redid the whole store and somehow seemed to just have loads of stuff that I didn't want and reduced all the basic stuff.  Still a huge store though, so you have to walk miles to get the basics.  Anyway, I used my £40 voucher and did stock up on some basics as well as finding the absolute perfect Xmas jumper for DS.  I never buy things new, but it was exactly him and I know he will wear it until it is more hole than jumper, so I got it for him.
Sent DH out first thing to pick up some drawers for DS from Ikea as I wasn't going to pay £25 delivery for that.  Kept myself very warm by building them (I forget how putting this stuff together hurts your hands when you have a sedentary job!).  Man came round to look at the heating and fixed it before I had finished.  It was easy and it was just the on switch that had broken (ironically, I said it feels like something silly like that!).  £60 down, but paid from cash I had around and so hasn't hit the joint finances.  DS can be happy later filing all his tat in his new drawers so I don't have to trip over it all the time.
Need to pull out presents next, finalise which are for Xmas and do some wrapping.  I also need to get rid of some shoes/boots I never use and check my wardrobe.  No use in new stuff to me coming in if I keep stuff in there which I don't like/wear.  I am slowly getting organised for Xmas, although there is so much still to do.  Need to get on top of some batch cooking very soon now.
Oh - I forgot, but work have reinstated the Xmas party (yay!).  I also had a chat to my manager around how it's all very well saying the whole making us go back to the office was a debacle*, but what are they actually going to do about it as I won't be the last to go.  Sounds like they are doing something, but I told them to hurry up, as the longer the wait, the more likely it is people will get annoyed and leave.  I already had a conversation with someone in the office yesterday about the silly policy.  Felt slightly weird as I guess I am part of management (although I always seem to do my own thing and don't directly manage anyone) and I can't yet tell anyone I'm going (waiting to get a plan rather than panic to ensue!).  Actually, I think I will have a quiet word with him tomorrow to try and make sure he stays/hangs in there as he's really good.
*Clearly an underused word since the automated spellchecker on here doesn't recognise it as a word!  Mind you, it is also set to American English since it gets upset at all the s's in my words.

    Errr, that's because you've misspelled it 🤣 There's no "r" 👍 I can't help with the s's though!

Thankfully a typo rather than a spelling issue, but it still doesn’t recognise it as a word. Mind you, my iPhone doesn’t recognise quite a lot of very normal words as allowable. “ill” apparently doesn’t exist 🤷‍♀️

“Organised” was one of the ones it didn’t like.

Oh, I see. Definitely US then. I thought you were meaning 'James's stuff' - which is correct, although often people get it wrong! 'Jesus' stuff' is fine though - it's reserved for biblical or classical individuals...
