Royal Icing shortage?
I know not so long back there were shortages of many cake making/decorating supplies at the main supermarkets. This seems to have sorted itself out now - I can get most things (although cheap flour is still a little difficult!) However I just can't find any Royal Icing sugar (the stuff that has dried egg white in it already). Has anyone spotted any, either online or in store, that isn't the price of a small Caribbean island? 😂

Whitworth's brand seems to be available in Sainsbury's (at least in my area):

Personally I think Silver Spoon is better quality and can be bought in Hobbycraft (delivery is very expensive unless you're buying other things, but you may have a local store):

Thanks pumpkin89, I hadn't thought of hobby craft. My local Sainsburys doesn't have it in - their baking shelves are some of the emptiest among my local supermarkets 😕0

You can make your own with normal icing sugar and egg whites, bbc good food has a recipe but this one also includes liquid glucose, some add glycerine.1

You can easily make sugar into icing sugar. Icing sugar is only sugar so fine it is a powder. Put your castor or granulated sugar in a liquidiser and work it until you see the sugar is airborne in the liquidiser and a fine powder.2

I'm sorted for now - my sis spotted the last on the shelf in Sainsburys so grabbed it for me. 😊3

I'm still struggling to find this. I've tried my local sainsbury and also waitrose. I've look on asda, morrisons, tesco and ocado website and all either don't have it or it's unavailable. I know you can make it with egg whites but I can't seem to get the amount of glycerin right and it always sets rock hard. Much prefer using the royal icing sugar.0

Yes, I'm struggling still. I just hope that with Xmas coming, they'll start stocking it (no pun intended!)
