Agree with others. It does sound like a communication breakdown. You don't owe the broker but sending a 'I confirm I do not need your service with insurance and I understand the risk' is not a big undertaking for a clean break.
But don't dismiss a good insurance broker though. Like mortgages there are many ways to structure insurances to maximum cover and lower monthly cost that you will not get from insurer directly. If you think you can swallow the rudeness why not arrange a meeting to learn more and be honest about your reservations about the quotes.0
