Hi everyone.
In order to build my credit history, I tried to obtain a credit card, and I had a look at this link suggested by a user from this forum.
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards/?_ga=2.84814233.1000296080.1598504265-25808794.1598504265
I applied to the tesco one (according to the calculator I had 60% chances of approval). Rejected. And soon after the Amazon one. Rejected for both. Amazon says that they will not tell anyone, but apparently tesco will. I should have waited before making the second application.
I suppose that I don't qualify for any credit card at all then. Or at least I cannot apply for one for the next 6 months.
I have no debts, never had, always paid on time, just not a very high annual salary.
Any advice?

Check your credit files for any issues and fix anything that needs fixing

Then apply for a sub prime card in a few months.  You can build from there. You seem to be aiming a little high at the moment.

How do I check my credit files?
Any link where I can see a list of sub prime cards?
    Thanks

    MSE credit club
    Clearscore
    Credit Karma

Check the data. Not the scores.

Sub prime cards include aqua, Vanquis, lower end Capital One cards.

Do you think that asking a credit card to my bank would be easier? They know me for years. And using their calculator it shows that I could even apply for a loan.

Yes, that's another option if you haven't already tried them.

Although I don't don't if I should wait. I've just been rejected by Tesco and Amazon today. Maybe call and ask for an appointment instead of doing the application?

No point in making an appointment. Cards aren't issued in branch any more, everything is centralised and automated.

Whoever you apply to, leave it a couple of months.

I literally have no idea what checking the credit files means, and what kind of mistakes I could fix...could you please give a little explanation? Thanks
  • There might be mistakes on your files, e.g. no electoral roll when you are actually registered, or even issues you were not aware of like missed payments. You want to check your files with all three agencies, MSE Credit Score Club will get you Experian and then use Credit Karma and Clearscore for your free Transunion and Equifax scores.

Log on to each of the websites I named. You'll be asked to create an account. You'll then be able to view your credit files, which is a history of the credit you have, how it has been managed, whether you're on the ER, current and past address, anyone you're financially associated with and so on.

Make sure that what appears is accurate, remembering that not all lenders report to all CRAs.
