Problem with walking boots

Hi, for my birthday in July my husband bought me a pair of walking boots. He specifically bought waterproof ones, as my old ones were leaking. The ground has been fairly dry until the last two weeks or so, and the boots were comfortable, so I was really happy with them. However during the a torrential storm the week before last, the boots were just sopping - I put it down to having tucked walking trousers into my socks and the water had got in from the top. However, I wore them again in the rain late last week, and they most definitely are not waterproof. He bought them from Blacks, but hasn't kept the email confirmation, and they are a Peter Storm make, but we I can't find a number for the manufacturer to make a complaint. Can anyone advise if there is a route we can take please, or will we have to chalk it down to experience and just buy another, more definitely waterproof pair?

You could contact Blacks and see what they say or alternatively contact Peter Storm.
Not sure why you cant find a number for the manufacturer, google says

The retailer should still have a record of the sale, no matter whether or not your husband kept his copy. Although it's a bit foolish not to.

It's the retailers' responsibility in the first instance. If you don't get anywhere you can go to Citizens Advice for more information but they are very busy at the moment.

If they were bought via a credit card your husband can make a claim for a full refund using S75.

But I'm sure I keep seeing this question going round and round this forum, this matter should really be sorted by now!!

PS where money is concerned, I'd NEVER "chalk it down to experience"!  That's just crazy talk.

Did you open a Blacks account to buy them, if so there will be a record of your purchase in it.

If you still have your old walking boots, and the problem was the sole coming away from the main part of the boot at the side (not the sole flapping open at the front) - I solved this with a hefty application of translucent bathroom sealant.  My boots are still going strong in the wet, many months later.
