Also, now that I can see the way out of debt (I've had this debt hanging around my neck for four and a half years without a plan or a budget until January...) I have dared to let myself start to think about the future. My saving priority will be my pension as I let that slip and I've got about 10 years of catching up to do. I also want to start saving for a car. We bought our current car second hand and it's 5, nearly 6, years old. I'm hoping it's got years of running left in it, but I want to start saving to be able to buy a new secondhand car outright when the time comes.Debt Free Journey

Frustrated by a company that haven't paid me for freelance services for quite some months now. They owe me £600 in total, and whilst I hadn't budgeted that income for living expenses - just paying debt - as freelancing is my side hustle rather than main job and it can be quite inconsistent - its frustrating knowing that after I put aside a percentage for tax and NI, £400 would go towards clearing my debt. As far as I'm aware they are still solvent - just not replying to my emails asking about when the invoices would be paid. Definitely one of the down sides of working for yourself that you aren't always told about. Going to give them one more week before seeking further advice.Debt Free Journey

Sorry you are having grief getting money owed out of someone. As you say, one of the pitfalls of being SE. I hope you get paid soon.
Some great savings goals there.

I hope the people that owe you money pay up soon! The pandemic has caused trouble for a lot of people. I got stung by something similar a few months ago but the place did actually pay up eventually. Hopefully your clients are in the 'genuinely struggling but trying' camp too.

Thanks everyone. It's been frustrating me all of this month because I thought last month that the money would have been paid by now, so I had put the £400 in my debt repayment spreadsheet for September. Every time I looked at the spreadsheet it just irked me that I wasn't making the repayment progress I had hoped. Yesterday I moved the £400 into the column for October's payments and I'm feeling a lot more chilled out about it. I would be a lot more understanding if they could just explain the situation to me that they might be in, I know the pandemic has been rough on a lot of businesses finances, but when they ignore my emails but are active on social media, then it's just very frustrating!Debt Free Journey

Anyway, I was able to send £75 to my Barclaycard yesterday which felt very good. I am also not one for inspirational quotes at all, but I read this one "Remember when you wanted what you have today" and it's been really useful whenever I feel like I'm not making fast enough progress. There was a time in February when I would have been delighted to have reached the 6K level, because back then it felt so far away, so keeping that mind is really giving me some much needed perspective.Debt Free Journey
