    I don't have much advice to offer here, other than to say its probably best if your parents have a chat with a mortgage broker.  He/she will be able to give them a sense of what type of product might be available for 'later life' borrowing and how much they could get.  It's all about affordability.

    @Deleted_User has obtained mortgages for older clients and those in retirement.
    @haras_n0sirrah is a shared ownership broker.

    There are some little hidden gems looking outside the cities, tell them not to rule out a flat either.

    I recently purchased a fantastic 2 bed flat, with private garden, great views and very good public transport links; it's not ex-authority.
    Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
