How quickly will I hear from halifax if application refered to underwriters?

MA applied for mortgage in principle this am. He has been informed due to my husband being self employed it will automatically go to review by an underwriter. Said we should hear within 8 working days. Just wondered if anyone has been in same situation and if you heard back any sooner 🤞🤞🤞🤞 or is it wishful thinking

  • We're both employed and in process of applying for a mortgage with Halifax. We're six weeks in now and each time we're asked to provide something it's taken at least a week for a response from Halifax. I wouldn't expect any miracles I'm afraid!

🙈 did you apply directly or use a MA? No idea if that makes things quicker!

  • We are currently on our 15th working day with no end in sight...
When the application went in we were told it would be around 8 working days too.

A broker - but they've been pretty useless. We had to send a employee reference for my wife. I've spoken to Halifax this morning who said this is now received and fine, and that an the case is now ready to issue an offer but it needs to be done by the underwriter. It's been passed to them as urgent to action and issue offer but at this stage I'm not expecting to hear anything back before next Friday.

7 weeks and a day as of today. Long and stressful process
