Brandy and lemonade

A couple of days ago, my Lady Wife mentioned that when going out of an evening with her mates, she used to enjoy a brandy and lemonade. So I've just bought some brandy and some lemonade with which to give her a little surprise. Only problem is, I haven't a clue how a pub might make a brandy and lemonade! Does a single measure of brandy in a half-pint glass of lemonade sound about right, or what?

It's one of those things which is very much 'personal taste'. A single shot of brandy would probably be drowned in half a pint of lemonade, so why not start with the shot of brandy in the half pint glass, but suggest to your wife that she adds the amount of lemonade she prefers?1

Definitely personal taste, but if I was your 'Lady Wife' I wouldn't be impressed by the half pint glass!
My preference would be a much smaller glass, either a brandy glass or small straight sided tumbler. I'd start with 1 part brandy to 3 parts lemonade and let her adjust to taste. Good luck and hope she appreciates the thought.1 -
How does she take any of spirits with mixer drinks? It's fairly likely she'd like the same ratio. 1 part spirit and 3 parts mixer is the classic ratio but some will say that's far too strong and others will say you've drowned it.
A "half pint glass" is technically anything that holds 284ml of drink, maybe with a cm extra above for head, and is a bit too nondescript as covers a wide range of glassware. Personally, I'd use something like a highball glass (normally around 300ml so could be considered "half pint" glass but taller and less diameter than a classic straight sided pub half pint) or a collins glass (which is a more extreme version of a highball) but it really depends on what kind of lady she is... some may prefer it in a heavy/robust glass tumbler and others a paper thin crystal highball. I'd avoid the nicked Peroni or Stella glasses.0 -
Yes, that would be perfect along with some ice. (coming from a previous barman)0
