Thats the truth of it. The majority of weather conditions make it impossible to do a like for like comparison, so really is impossible to measure 1% per year with weather patterns. Even 10-20% would be difficult to notice, given weather patterns.
Mine have been installed for almost 5 years and my highest ever daily output was during lockdown this year. I doubt my panels have improved efficiency over 4 years!

Yes it's impossible to really tell but for me two things stand out: 

1.  I too have had my best ever day earlier this year 
2. Probably slightly more indicative - I'm still getting the same peak production as I did four years ago. Which for me suggests that I haven't had as much as 10% degradation as that is something I would notice.
