Weight and booze

  • Hi @Rye93_2 firstly, you aren't alone in increasing alcohol consumption over lockdown. Some people have done it because anxious/stressed or bored or missing the routine of being able to go to the pub.

Secondly, if you Google alcohol guidelines, you'll find that at 14 units of alcohol for men and women per week, UK guidelines are one of the lowest units/drinks per week in the world. There are other countries with much higher guidelines. It has to be asked what the evidence is for these guidelines. Is it merely because Brits may have more of a problem with alcohol statistics-wise ?? Is it due to the drinks favoured by Brits ??

Red wine in moderation is supposed to be healthy. The guideline for French drinkers is 10 drinks a week for women, 15 for men.

Beer is fattening, it contains far more carbs than red wine or spirits. Cutting back, would start the weight loss.
It's good that you've acknowledged the problem, that's the first step. Try the NHS website and Drinkaware as they should have more info to help you.
