O/S Daily Thursday 20 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your days off.
Look after you and your DS Topsy, good luck to you.
Thinking of you today MM.
It's very windy here, there has been some rain overnight but dry for now. I put washing out when I got home from work yesterday and it dried in no time, I even managed to sit out and read for a while until my next door neighbour wanted a chat! Grass cut and the bin is out - I remembered to call at DDs to put her bin out so a gold star for me!
Nothing of note going on here but I do need to make a birthday cake for DGD, she was 9 last week and they are coming here on Saturday for a night, we'll have a birthday lunch on Sunday.
Enjoy Thursday, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun has his hat on and we are promised a lovely sunny day before the strong winds and rain clobber us tomorrow.
DD and the girlies are back from the caravan for one day today = GCSE results day for eldest DGD. They have already been told it will be the controversial algorithm result but if the teachers predicted grades are better they will get those next week. What a debacle it's been with so many dreams shattered.
As usual nothing remotely interesting to say but if the day lives up to promise I will probably find myself sitting outside making the best of it. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of TOPSY and hoping NAN is ok, we haven't heard from her for quite a few days now. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning folks. No nasty wind or rain here though it's a'coming I'm sure. I aim to be at the building society at 9.00am and will then head to the tip and CS. With a bit of luck I'll be back here by 10.30am. No cleaner today as she's having minor surgery on one of her feet.Yesterday I confirmed the order for a new boiler. I've asked that it be installed in early October, just have to pay a deposit today.I hope that everyone is safe from the end of the Atlantic storm, I think that Ireland will be pummelled by it. Happy Thursday to all.13

Good morning, sunny here, it's a change from lowering grey skies.Enjoy your days off NMLC.Topsy I was sorry to read that your home situation is so difficult, it's no fun being a "buffer".Not a lot going on here, we had DD and family for most of the day on Tuesday, it was very nice, if a bit chaotic!Yesterday Dh did a couple of jobs for a friend who is on her own and we went out for a walk, that was it really.Today I'll go to the local shops, when I remember what I want, I would like to go further afield to Newcastle or the Metrocentre, but I haven't done it yet. They are easily accessible, but I keep putting off.Hope everyone has a good day anyway, take care folks12

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
Sunny here and no rain forecast so I've got the bedding in the washing machine, it has been in the laundry basket waiting for a decent drying day.
Plumber came yesterday, plus usual handyman plus his oppo and we are having a new shower screen fitted today. Well, this evening.
Like Gers, I made the dust mistake yesterday. I had noticed that the wooden venetian blinds in our bedroom were very dusty and decided to clean them. It took ages and still am not sure that they are up to my low standards. Then I had to dust things that the dust had got onto so a right faff and it made me sneeze. I did a bit of ironing too, unironed cotton trousies look a bit pants.
Topsy that is a horrible situation for you, you might want to look up beneficial interest in respect of house ownership.
Is today meanmarie's surgery day? Apologies if not but if it is, best wishes.
If the ground dries out a bit, I'll go for a walk later, it is still quite wet underfoot here. And scavenge any rotten wood I spot lying around.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -

Morning all.
TA, will you get the chance to see your family? I agree about the exam results, but I don't quite know what else they could have done in the circumstances. At least the children are being given the advantage of any sort of doubt. The whole of life has been thrown into the melting pot and we are all, including the government, trying to deal with unprecedented situations. I dont think they have always made the wisest decisions, but I certainly don't know what the wisest decisions are. Hope your DGD gets the results she wants.
AOD, venetian blinds are the pits to clean. Not only used I to put the job off as long as possible, but suffered with aches and pains long afterwards because of spending hours on a stepladder wiping them all down. The ones I inherited were huge and hundreds of very narrow slats. Never again!
Sunny here this morning, and supposed to be dry all day. I may get some washing done.
I have also had some compost delivered, so may go out and wring my hands a bit in the garden. I moved here before Christmas and found that as well as a filthy, neglected and down-at-heel bungalow, I had won a garden consisting of gravelly paths that wandered around to no discernable destination and scrubby patches of weeds that may or may not have been lawns at some point in history.
This is all very difficult to one of my indolent nature.
But first.....coffee.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I read of people my age, mountain climbing. I do well to get my leg through my underwear without losing my balance.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.16 -
Monna I identify so much with your thought for the day !

Morning all
Bright and sunny here and set in for the day, its better than yesterday when it rained non stop all day, the dogs had a very quick walk around the park and we all got drenched.
I am off to the hairdresser today to have a colour put on my hair, not sure what yet but may go for highlights in a lighter colour I just fancies a change really, its going to take most of the afternoon so I shall take my book and some water.
Dinner tonight will be a chicken curry I kept some sauce from our last takeaway so will mix that in, I have a red thai curry kit from Aldi which is lovely, but the takeaway sauce makes it much tastier,.
Marie I think its your op today hope all goes well for you, I suspect you are already in there and wont see this till later but I am thinking of you xx
Have good days all xx14 -
Monna if I can get my knickers on the right way up and not back to front or inside out, I count that as a win.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13
