  • Interesting, they have the big* boxes at £4 atm.

*I say big, but they seem to have shrunk significantly since I was a child.

I just look at the size of sweets and think I'm being ripped off.
Since Toblerone removed every 2nd chunk I've never bought another of those, to buying my last pack of Kit-Kats a couple of weeks ago which must've shrunk to half its size.
You used to be able to use a chocolates tin to put a cake in, but they're more suited to a few pancakes now.
Shrinkflation to me is the manufacturers thinking I'm stupid.

I made a Bundt carrot cake yesterday and it did not fit into the plastic tub of Celebrations. As you alluded to, it's as flat as a pancake.

They know that you notice, but the reality is that the costs go up, and the options are (a) keep the size the same and increase the price, or (b) reduce the size and keep the same price.  (b) sells more, it's as simple as that.

But knowing the floor price is £3.50, I'm unlikely to spend more than that.

£3.50 for 600g of boxed chocolate is as good as it gets. Lazy gift to a household but one that is unlikely to be shunned.

  • Thanks for this - bought a tub of Heros and a tub of Celebrations in Tesco's last night. Now just have to keep them until Christmas!!
  • Morrisons are doing 2 for £7 atm. I doubt discounting will be allowed for much longer if the government serious about implementing its obesity strategy.
