Mortgage as non UK resident

Hello all,
My girlfriend (who is French and moved in with me in the UK in March) and I would like to jointly apply for a mortgage but the usual high street lenders all appear to need 3 years of credit history. Is this standard? I am British and can borrow without issue (and have done in the past).
We've also looked at HSBC, who have an expat mortgage scheme but she doesn't have the cash or income level required to apply.
Is there any way a non-UK resident (EU national) with less than 3 years' credit history in the UK can get a mortgage here?
Thanks,
Rob

This would be better in the mortgage forums rather than the reclaiming forums but you’ll be best speaking to a whole of market mortgage advisor.

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
