    Wow...what a journey!

The £10k does sound random...I had assumed it was a redundancy payment...was it a tax rebate or something?

Terrible bosses can make or break a role. Especially if you’re in a smallish organisation and it’s someone near the top messing you around.

Any reason not to pay in small increments? The time wasted ha. I’d just want it gone but I can see where you are coming from ha. Personally I’d channel that energy into other things.

Whats the plan on the job front? I guess it’s a less than ideal time to be searching for another job...plus you probably just want some time to breathe ha.

It must be tough not being able to tell anyone but I sort of know what you mean. I felt I couldn’t tell family about my windfall from being owed a month of holiday pay as they’d ask me for more rent  It’s hard holding in that excitement!

    Oh exactly!
I honestly don't know what the 10 (nearer 11!) K is for. It could be a tax rebate and that is most likely. Or they could have paid me three months' notice to keep me quiet or they might have been under paying me (as my salary in my bank account was always miles under my pay slip!)
I am applying for jobs and had two interviews. I'm also setting up a marketing consultancy business which I am loving but have no actual customers 😂😂😂😂
Just getting used to the UK again. I keep taking photos of everything and saying weird things in shops! I was only gone 10 months but I seem to stand out in some way...the Covid rules are different here.
Right. I'm off now to pay £718 off my Barclaycard!!!
I am genuinely a bit worried that once I've paid everything off that I can I need to get in a new mindset...will be minimum payments after that til I get a job and will have to work out when new debt free date will be!!! Will have a snoop of your diary too 😁😁😁

All of your debt is on 0% right?

If that’s the case and you can trust yourself not to dip into the money for other spends then why not clear it more gradually and keep the money in savings? Only other issue is if having that much would impact a claim for benefits? Not sure what the threshold is...
    No it's not at all!

Only Marbles (3k) is on 0% and that runs out in Feb
    Loan is on 12%
Paypal and Barclaycard on 19 or 20%
So I do no need to clear it in over a few days or so really.
I thought about savings but as family are putting me up and feeding me then I think I will be OK with just the benefit money.
However this assumes I'll get a job in 3-4 months max, which might not be the case! And as I think you will know better than me, these things can have a time limit! They're so pleased to have me back safe and sound right now, but that novelty will potentially last less long than my unemployment!!
It is a bit tricky as if I was in work paying off debts would be a no brainer.

Ah yes! In that case clear everything that is charging interest immediately, ha. Could keep the marbles on 0% to keep some cash by in case you sort a job and need a deposit to
    move etc.

Haha. Yes, know what you mean. Sure it’ll be fine but you’ll also want your independence, ha. I guess you can at east use that thought to drive you.

The business sounds great, even if you have no customers right now ha.

  • Yes to be honest if I get customers it's going to be a bit of a pain as they'll no doubt have their own ideas as to what I should be doing with my time! Thanks Ryan,..you are the superest!!!!

  • Darling pleased your home. Any benefits won't come through for about 5 weeks possibly so keep a bit back for living and if you need a coat from CS get one  :D, I know you want to pay off the debt but do leave yourself something to live off and get what you need. You have earned it. If you are claiming Universal Credit you need to declare any savings you have over 6k so if you hang on to the money above this amount you will receive less benefits I think.

    Hi Sam

Thanks! I have a £15 charity ship coat, which was from Whistles, so quite pleased with it! I need some shoes / boots!!! I've pretty much paid all the money now to debts. I have about £1k left, which is a little buffer. I'm still confused as hell as to what the debts are going to end up as....I think I just need to wait a couple of months as my Clearscore report is months out of date, and paying off the loan was MEANT to be no penalty but they wanted to convert 7 payments of £52 into a payoff sum of £540 so something happened there!
I'm hoping my min payments will be sub £100 as I can manage that and still have some treat money.
The job search is going AWFULLY! So I may be in this situation for some months.
You being so sweet has made me feel loads better. All my friends and family have been so nice about everything, and supportive.
    xxx

  • I think, weirdly and I'm not sure how, that I'm going to be left with debts a bit like this:
    1k Barclaycard
    3k Marbles
    1k Paypal
Which means I'll be paying minimums for I assume 8 months (if four months to get a job, then waiting for payday, then having to save for a rental deposit then having to get at least a futon and a kettle and a couple of saucepans!)
After that I'd hopefully be able to up the payments so debt free date of around September 2021....which is exactly what it was before I left my job and came back! So in that sense, no harm, and the interest payments will be a bit less.

That’s a really good way of looking at it. I’m sorry the job search isn’t going great. It is a difficult climate out there but you just need to keep your perspective and you’ll come out stronger. Wishing you lots of positive moments in the coming days x

Hahah! I hadn't thought of it like that. Yes it is progress in a way!! Thanks...will keep everyone posted and think I now need to start logging what I am spending as it will encourage me to be as frugal as possible in the next few months!
