O/S Daily Tuesday 18 August 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy overcast start to the day, we had a heavy downpour mid afternoon but nothing since then. Sky not looking great at the moment but no rain due until mid afternoon.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner was fish goujons, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had baked fish and veg. Tonight will be sausages, mash, veg and gravy.
Yesterday - work wasn't too bad, we'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a grey start, but may turn fine and warm like it did yesterday, we can only hope.We tidied the garden yesterday and moved a few plants, then came through to the backyard and tidied that, there was a bit of sawdust and some shavings from where DH had repaired the fence .My hanging basket tomatoes are ripening up, just need the sunshine!I think that was all.for yesterday.Today DD and family are visiting so it'll be a lively day, it'll be good to see them - they spend a lot of time at their caravan in the summer, and why not.How early it's getting dark in the evening now, I noticed last night - I'm trying to fight off feelings of dread about the dark nights coming. It's not the winter as such that I dread it's the early dark. Still, once we get into the new year it starts lightening up.hope everyone has a good Tuesday anyway, take care folks15

Morning All
Damp and cloudy this morning but apparently we may see the sunshine later. Washing is on the rack, should be dry enough to iron later.
An electrician came yesterday to see about taking out the alarm, he's coming back today to do it, I've been asking various people for years but no-one ever comes to do it. I'm sure he's only about 12, I must be getting very old!
All children were back at school yesterday, it seemed ok but there are staggered break and lunch times which is a bit confusing but I'm sure it will soon become normal.
I'm going to drag myself through today, didn't sleep very well again last night, I seem to be in a habit of waking up and not getting back to sleep. I'm sure it will pass.
Happy Tuesday, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Grey skies here and light rain forecast. We actually had a heavy downpour at last yesterday evening but still no thunderstorms. All the tubs and pots have now had a good watering.
I was MIA yesterday because, as usual through this lockdown, I have nothing of any importance or interest to tell you. The highlight of yesterday was when DS called after work to cut the wayward hedge at the front. I was ashamed at the state of it. Anyway it looks so much better now. And it was nice to have a face to face conversation with someone. The local news wasn't very uplifting and it doesn't look as if the lockdown will be lifted for us at the end of the week. The figures are still not going down. Our MP is now wanting the lockdown to be assessed with the areas that haven't had new cases being excluded from the blanket ban. I am not holding my breath on that. I am finding it very difficult to cope with the isolation and lack of company and missing seeing my family so much. Texts, e-mails and phone calls are not the same as a hug..
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care and stay safe x

Morning all! Cat decided to walk on me to wake me up so after a cup of tea I feel vaguely human. Yesterday the OH filled the rest of the skip with dirt and I managed to level off three quarters of the bit outside the back door, just got one bit left to do today and the earth has to be piled in the area of the bed where I lifted the potatoes, but after that operation riddle for sand for the slabs and stones for the back end can begin. Which reminds me, must look for some metal edging. My body is still not liking this excercise lark, but then, if I sit and do nothing, it just complains then too. So I can't win either way and I might as well make it do something to sweat a bit
When my behind gets a bit smaller I'll get back on the bike but it wasn't very comfortable before even with the gel seat, maybe I ought to replace it with one of those old fashioned tractor seats, you know , the metal ones with massive cups for a weary farmers derriere...
I did boil up the apples last night so will be making chilli jelly later on. One gripe. Why is it so difficult to remove old labels from jars? I used white spirit - no go. Methylated spirit - no go. In the end I resorted to scrubbing it to the edge and beyond with a metal scrubber and lots of washing up liquid and that took a while too. They're all in the magic cupboard now anyway, awaiting sterilisation. Need to get the chillies out of the freezer, they're the last of what I grew two years ago but I'll stick in some chipotle chilli flakes too to see if that makes any difference. Not much else to report, the sun is currently shining, the birds are not singing that much...TA, you are having a tough time of it aren't you? Virtual hugs...Nelski, hows the injuries looking? and have you been back outside again? Haven't seen nanny for a bit, hope she's OK...Hey all reading along, gird your loins for up and at 'em tiring Tuesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13 -
Morning all
Weather pleasant but the nights are definitely getting darker we walk the dog with friends at 9.30 and its now dark seems to have changed quickly this year . Todays excitement factor is accompanying DH to his diabetic eye screening i shall have to park in Asda as there is only 4 spaces for parking at the clinic .
Right onwards n upwards have a great day whatever you are up to xSlava Ukraini14 -

Lots of rain here this morning not complaining as its nicely cooled down now meaning I got a decentish sleep last night.
TA really glad you got to some time with DS that must have really cheered you up
nanny ...where are U we miss U
Yesterday was high on the nothing notable to report scale and more than likely today will be the same. Mum had a meltdown which needed sorting. She rang me in the morning to let me know her phone wasn't ringing out.....now if you read that again you'll see how non sensical it is.
Today I need to have a Tuesday tidy as the terrorist is coming round tomorrow
Dinner last night was fish finger rolls and peastonight i have smoked salmon spinach and poached eggs on toast planned
Have a good day all14 -
Morning all.
ScarletRibbons, Isn't it amazing how different we human beans are? I love the dark evenings. I do a good cosy and am never happier than when I draw the curtains, light the lamps and settle down for the long evening. Perhaps I wasn't a sloth in a previous existence. Perhaps I was a mole.
Oh Camelot, you take me right back to my teaching days when the first day of the Autumn term was laden with new things. New class, New children, New books, sometimes even a new school. In my day the classes were anything up to 45 strong. No joke if you had the reception class and were faced with 45 tinies who had never left their mothers before.
It happened to me more than once. Good luck with school in lockdown!
TA, I feel very sorry that you feel so down. You've hardly had time to get used to living on your own, before all this happens. I know that my friends and I spend an awful lot of time gossiping on the phone and some of them desperately need some human contact. It must be worse knowing that your family are so close, but still not THERE, iyswim.
I'm still trying to sort out the last lot of stuff that has been in store for the last 5 years. Gordon Bennett! Why did I keep all this? I am contemplating putting it all out on the front lawn with a notice - Help Yourselves.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I have a ton of excitement in my life. I used to call it stress, but I feel much better now that I call it excitement.
ETA, taff - WD40.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Yesterday's soggy start turned into a pleasant day, if a bit humid, and I got some washing almost dry. Managed to get it back in just before the afternoon thunderstorms hit too, and then we had heavy rain on and off for the rest of the day. A bit brighter today, though it was raining when I got up. The garden has benefited.
The birds are flying about, yesterday I saw a wren and we have young birds, you can tell what they will be when they grow up. They are giving me feathers to put in the compost and each individual feather from a robin or bluetit is just tinged with red or blue, so I have learnt that the intense colour must be from all those feathers together.
I did some boring jobs yesterday then finished making a onesie for a bear. Baby clothes next. But need to scrub the bathroom first.
TA I'm sorry that you are having such a horrible time, I hope your local lockdown comes to an end very soon.
Taff, Monna is right WD40 usually works, or you could try nail varnish remover. Why I have that is a mystery but it sometimes comes in handy.
I am noticing the days getting shorter too, at least now I don't have to go to work in the dark and then come back in it too, I was very unkeen on that, especially on wet days when public transport was full of damp people and steamed up windows. But now I'd love a little ride about on the bus. And to go shopping.
I must stop wittering and fill up the suet ball feeder, a squirrel has been hanging on it, pointing at its emptiness and probably trying to work out just how to get me to feed it. Psychological squirrel warfare.
Hope everyone has a good day, even if not quite the day we all hope for.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Morning all.I've had a slow start to my day though just about to go up the gears. Yesterday turned into a bit manic though I have no idea why. I had a nice half hour with a chap from my neighbourhood who had taken another local chap down to the cancer care unit it. He brought me some papers from the charity I volunteer for and a bag of his home grown Pink Firs, complete with soil.Today DM is having two visitors this afternoon so I'll be waitressing for them. I need to go out for some cakes, luckily the new patisserie is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so I won't be tempted to go there.TA - it's so dreadful, my heart goes out to you. I think it's worse because of the short interlude when the family could get together and it's snatched away again.Hugs all round, to the sloths, to the goths, to the weary, to the energetic and those who are too wound up to stop. Happy Tuesday to everyone.12
