I made a boo boo

A few weeks ago we had people coming round asking if we were interested in local produce. I told them I was so they dropped off a price list and i chose a few bits. Thought it would be good to support local businesses.

Anyway, they are bringing my shopping on Thursday and its come to £92.65

I dont think i will be "supporting" anyone else other than our local sanisburys in the future. If i had done the same order at sainsburys it would have come to about £65 :o

!!!!!!, not the best way to go about saving money - er i wont be using them again :o

I went to a new local organic shop hoping to show a little support to a new business starting up... it was about 5 times the price of my supermarket. Sometimes you just have to put price ahead of other considerations, but don't feel bad for trying it out.

It's not unknown for a quality ingredient and 4 parts "filler" to make a better meal than a supermarket ingredient and 1 part "filler".

well its coming on thursday so will let you know what its like.

Even if it is fantastic i dont think my pocket could take the hammering :o

When they phoned up they said to have my next order ready when the delivery arrives.

I thought that was a bit weird cos how can you order again before your order has arrived. Even If i did want to use them again I wouldnt want to order before each order arrives - how do you know what you want

A similar thing happened to me the first time I went to a local farmer's market & bought some meat. I couldn't see the prices properly because of the number of people in front of the stand, so I order several lots of "4 of that please" & "I'll take the last 6 of that", expecting prices just a little bit higher than the supermarket. I nearly collapsed when the chap told me the total price - probably three times what it would have cost from the supermarket. I was too embarrassed to ask him to take some items back, especially with loads of people waiting to be served, so I paid for the lot, silently crying inside. :o The meat was lovely, especially the different varieties of sausages, & was far nicer than anything I've bought from a supermarket, but there's no way I could afford to buy it on a regular basis. It'll have to be a very special treat from now on, Desert Island Disks style. :)

I'll have to let you know how nice this lot is when it arrives.

We have bought "bits" of stuff locally as there are a few farms around here but i dont think I could shop properly like this.

Although last week I went to wholesale place in osewstry which is part of "iwantmeat.com" and i bought 12 sirloin steaks, sholder of lamb and 2 pork chops for £10 - bargain!!!

I also bought plum and brandy pork sausages from local farm and they were £2.70 for 6 they were nice but again it was a treat.

Maybe one day when i am rich i can offer my full support and buy local all the time :o

  • Our local farmers market is the same - I bought 6 burgers, two pies and a loaf of bread and didnt get change from £20 (and was in shock all weekend!).

But the taste was incredible, and when I am on maternity leave from january, I will go once a fortnight, buy the amazing bread, slice carefully and freeze in singles, so that I get a great quality treat every now and then, rather than the crud they sell in the supermarkets! I think the organic bread is good for my baby too.

If you can use this supplier just for little treats, or special occasions that might be the way to go?
