Letter from LexisNexis regarding Pension entitlement

Hi
Just received a letter though the post from a company called LexisNexis advising me they "have been appointed by The Dignity Pension and Assurance Scheme to contact me in relation to a pension entitlement held by a potential relative as their records show that they have lost contact. At LexisNexis we help pension and life assurance companies to find and confirm the identity of individuals who they may have lost contact with." and they want me to ring them
There are no details about who the potential relative is or any other assurance this is legit.. I have done some searching online for them and the Dignity pension and assurance scheme and not found out much so wondered if anyone had a similar experience. Is this coil calling in some way or a scam??

    From my searches...

Dignity Pension and Assurance is genuine.  It seems to be the pension scheme for employees of Dignity Plc, Funeral Directors.
    see:http://lib.cartwrightlive.co.uk/Dignity_Pension_and_Assurance_Scheme_SIP_01-09-2019.pdf

LexisNexis are a significant multinational company specialising in legal data. See https://www.lexisnexis.co.uk/

So, the call could well be genuine.  They could have the name of someone due a payout and are telephoning all possible matches to find the right person, which may or may not be you.  I suggest you ring them and find out more.  Be careful - if they ask for money they are a scam using genuine company names. But my guess is that they simply want to check whether you are the person they are looking for.

PS you could check whether the phone number they gave you matches anything on their website.

Googling phone numbers is always a good idea.  I have done it loads of times to identify scams.

LexisNexis is highly respectable and well regarded. Their telephone number is 0330 161 1234 so ring and check. They do indeed seem to offer the sort of tracing service you describe: https://risk.lexisnexis.co.uk/life-and-pension/deferred-pension-member-tracing
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

I had a similar letter a couple of years ago from LexisNexis regarding the Sylvania Lighting Pension Plan. I gave LexisNexis a call & they were very helpful. I explained that I had no knowledge of the Sylvania Lighting Pension Plan & that all my pensions & employers were all accounted for. To confirm that I was not the person that they were looking for we went through some personal details. They did not ask me for any details but asked me to confirm the details they held. They gave me a full name & DOB which were the same but then I was offered the first few characters of the National Insurance number but these were completely different to mine e.g. AB 12 34 instead of YZ 98 76. So their search continues...

I wonder which employee draws the short straw when they have to find a John Smith :)
