hi all, not sure what category to put this in so sorry if its in the wrong place!
I've had an email from ccl regarding a customs charge. I've had these before and paid them to receive my goods but this time the situation is a bit different.
I ordered an item with value of about £45. After paying a ccl customs charge, I recieved it but it was faulty. The shop in the US have sent me out a free replacement. I've now had an email to pay a customs charge for that one too. Is that right with it being a freebie replacement? Ends up meaning in total from my original order ill have paid over £75 for an item worth £45.
If its all correct I'll suck it up and pay it, but thought I'd double check first.

I believe you need to pay on the new, working item. But, if you are feeling up to wrestling with the system, you might be able to reclaim what you paid on the faulty one, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/refunds-and-waivers-on-customs-debt#claims-for-rejected-imports
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

It would be useful (not to say polite) for people to come back and let everybody know how they got on, after others have given advice.0

I'm not sure what the campaign is1

You would ordinarily return the original faulty item and then be entitled to a refund of the import costs paid for that item.
Does the merchant not want the faulty item back?1
