Old Style Daily Saturday 15 August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's another wet gloomy morning here, not cold though. I visited a friend last night, and we talked and talked for nearly 3 hours! It was a lovely change, and another step back towards normality.Today there's shopping to do, I don't need much though, and that's it. Well, there's washing in the basket, I've been leaving it hoping that the weather will brighten up, but we seem to be stuck with these damp grey days.hope everyone has a good Saturday, take care folks.15

Good morning everyone. It's very close here already. Not sure if the sun is going to make an appearance later though I suppose it doesn't matter too much.Yesterday the boiler engineer did the repair. He showed me all the stuff which came out of the hoses. It's also in the central heating system as I can hear the radiators rattle when the heating comes on. After a long discussion with him and then DM we all agreed that a new boiler was needed. It's a pain in the purse but it's long been needed, I remember the same discussions last year and the year before too so it's limped along for two winters. The thought of it breaking down on Christmas Eve fills me with dread. Decision made then. 🙂
This morning it's shopping as usual. In the afternoon I'm going to visit an elderly friend who needs some light PC help, her new TV installed and new portable phones set up. I'll do my best. The other day I got a call from JL about the scratch on the new DW. She offered a replacement and installation but I asked for a rebate on the cost instead. I just couldn't face the hassle of it all after all the work that's been going on here this year. She agreed a refund of £100.00 which I'm happy with. I've stuck a magnet over the damaged part. 😀Right, must make a move. I hope that everyone is doing OK and can enjoy the day. Happy Saturday to all.13 -

Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Cloudy dull start to the day again, cooler too.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit and I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken, chips, beans/coleslaw, I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight maybe chicken enchilades with skinny chips/salad/coleslaw.
Have a couple of jobs to do this morning so I'll get those done and then have some time to chill.
Back to work on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Not very bright this morning but that's how it's been for the past few days then brightened up in the afternoon. Hope it does improve as I have the bedding on the line. Yesterday's washing went out at 3.30 and was dry by 6.
Work was utter bliss yesterday, only the littlies in for the morning so I managed to get loads of little things done and the mess from the Hub that had ended up in my office was all cleared away. I feel better for starting properly on Monday now.
My friends from across the road came over for a gin about 5.30 and left at 10.30! We had a couple of drinks (well, Mr friend had quite a few), crisps and later on they had chips delivered. We sat out all evening and although it got a bit chilly it was just lovely. Of course 2 gins for me means a slow start this morning but I'll recover. I think Mr friend may feel a little differently.
I'm waiting for the builder to visit this morning to let me know his thoughts on the damp I found, maybe a new damp course or maybe new roughcasting, either will be expensive.
Gers - Ouch on the boiler but you couldn't be without heating, especially for your DM. Glad the DW is all sorted.
Nelski - Is the spa open this afternoon?
-taff - slow down Mrs!
Have a good weekend, take care. XX11 -

Sorry to see lockdown hasn't been lifted for TA hopefully next week
Have a good day all and see a few of you for gin later10 -
Gers, I feel your pain, having had the expense of a new dishwasher and pressurised hot water tank which was narly as expensive as a new boiler.
Nelski, I hope you had a better day yesterday.
We went for a lovely meal with Chris and Crystal last night. Although Steve plays golf with Chris a couple of times a week I hadn't seen them since the end of June and I miss them. Crystal is still keeping her fingers crossed that their Italian holiday isn't cancelled, Chris doesn't mind so much, he's more of a homebody than she is. If they're away and Italy is quarantined she doesn't mind because they can both work from home but if it's announced before they go Chris would have to cancel. I don't think cases in Italy are too bad at the moment though.
Grey here again, we have to walk Ziggy and Steve is playing golf this afternoon. I shall probably sew, apart from some face masks I have hardly done any machine sewing for weeks. I have been hand sewing but that is it so I want to get going again. I always slow down during the summer but lockdown seemed to paralyse me a bit.12 -
Morning all
Dull and overcast here but no rain and its still fairly warm but not unbearable as it has been. OH is out at the boot sale and dd is still in bed as is my pup so its just dd's pup and I downstairs atm so nice and peaceful.
Nothing exciting planned for today just the usual housework, walking the dogs and hopefully a cycle if the rain holds off, we were planning on a bbq tonight but that is also weather dependent if it rains we will cook inside.
Its dd's house viewing at 10.30 this morning so fingers crossed for that, I just hope the ex has cleared up somewhat !!
Hopefully Nels spa will be open later so I can have some sunshine there if the weather is better.
Have good days all xx11 -
Afternoon folks and thanks GERS for the kick off. It's overcast here, no sun but no rain either. It feels much cooler but didn't need a jacket.
I really hit rock bottom yesterday after the announcement that we are to remain in local lockdown for longer and feel very bitter towards those who could not obey the rules and got us into this spike. It's like rubbing salt in the wound when the news is full of excitement of further services coming out of lockdown whilst we are sinking further back into it.
Anyway after a good sleep I felt less depressed about it and decided to get the early bus into town before that small pleasure is taken away from us as well! I took the cropped pants back to Bon Marche and changed them for another pair of jeans. Then the obligatory browse of Poundland! I then decided to be a rebel and caught the bus along the valley bottom to the next town along! (They are also under the same lockdown so not breaking any rules) I had a browse around Lidl. It's only my second time in there and before getting in the actual supermarket you have to run the gauntlet of all the tempting goodies in the in-store bakery! I averted my eyes and the mask disguised the tempting smell so nothing naughty went in my basket! I did buy a few things so will have to cross them off my grocery delivery due tomorrow.
Now I know this isn't in the spirit of MSE but in my feeling very sorry for myself mood last night I ordered one of the M & S food boxes of ready meals! This is for when I just cba cooking anything and also go some small way towards compensating me for all the restaurant/pub meals I have been deprived of all these months! Well there's not many pleasures in life just now.
Enjoy the rest of the day folks if you can and take care one and all. REDRUBY I hope the viewing went well in a spotlessly clean and tidy house! I'm a bit late off setting for the Spa so hope you haven't drained all the gin bottles x
