Hi All,
Looking for a bit of advice on my VERY late Ryanair refund.

*Short version*
Booked a flight to Protugal in April. Flight was cancelled in March, entered the refund queue and still hasn't been processed. CS rep won't escalate the issue, and every time I speak to them they just tell me it's "in the queue, be patient"
Booked through the airline's site (not an OTA), paid with a debit card. Bank wouldn't agree to a chargeback. Out of options and not sure what else I can do now...?

*Long version*
I had 2 flights booked with Ryanair. 1 in April, 1 in May. The April one was cancelled on March 24. I immediately entered the refund queue, received emails promising a refund, then got the vouchers. I contacted them a couple of times to say I didn't want the vouchers. Same with the May flight; immediately applied for a refund when it was cancelled in April. On June 18 I was told my refund was "in the queue, and that I should be patient"
On their website (and press releases) it states that;
  • All March cash refund requests have now been cleared.
  • At the end of June, 50% of April cash refunds have been cleared.
  • By 15th July, the balance of April cash refunds will be processed.
  • By the end of July, all of May and most of June cash refunds will also be processed.
So according to this, both of mine should have been processed. Neither of them have.
I contacted them again today and was told the same thing; "it's in the queue, they're being processed in order, be patient"
I asked the CS rep to escalate it as it's been 4.5 months, and clearly something is not right. If they're being processed in order, March/ April are done and I've not got my money, then either they're lying or something is wrong with my transaction. They said there's "nothing wrong" but they were not allowed to escalate it.

So I'm out of options. I booked directly through the airline's website, using my UK debit card. The bank refused to go through the cashback procedure, and now it's too late anyway as it's been more than 90 days.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do now? I'm not desparate for the £400, but at the same time they can't just sit on my money indefinitely.

  • Still waiting for my refund too.  Flights were in April.  Waiting for over £2000 back.  I stupidly was reassured when they claimed all April flights would be refunded by July 15th.  Still waiting on August 10th.  I’ve gone through my credit card now hoping for better luck.  I’m not sure with chargeback- I guess you have no option but to wait or to pursue small claims court if it never materialises.  Good luck!

still waiting for refund flight cancelled march 2020. is section 75 now the way to go, or is there any other channel to extract the refund from ryanair?
  • I had return flights booked for 2 people .The return dates were 20/5 .still received no refund .I requested refund from the start .Managed to eventually get on chat today and was told they will do it when they can! it even says on the page i was using that it will take 3 weeks(this does not say when the 3 weeks begins though). When i asked about how long the refunds take, was told as fast as they can. today is 12/8/20
  • I have been waiting for my refund for over 3 months now. Chased a few times told to be patient. Yesterday was told that there system showed that I had booked through an online agency and needed to complete a Customer Verification form.  I booked direct with Ryanair and therefore do not have the information requested on the form.  In the end I have sent them copies of my flight confirmation from them and a copy of my bank statement showing that I paid Ryanair direct.  I wait and see now.  Is this another delaying tactic by Ryanair
  • The lying gits at Ryanair will tell you that you will receive a refund in 21 days. My credit-card provider did a chargeback for me about 2 weeks ago and then earlier this week, *miraculously*, Ryanair told me they were refunding my flight (no apology for the delay of course). Now I just have to repeat the process with a later flight which they have also cancelled and for which I have been waiting for a refund since April.

    Update
Just received my refund from Ryanair for cancelled flight from tenerife 24th march. i kept sending reminder emails every week to different addresses, don't know if that helped. Vowed I would never use them again until Easyjet pulled out of Newcastle and I've had to rebook......oh well at least I know what to expect........
Saying that I have actually saved money on my holiday in Oct/Nov as the rebooked flights/car hire were cheaper. I only booked with full cancellations on Airbnb (who are excellent) now and accept that the flights are just a complete lottery.
Good luck to everyone in the Ryanair queue.....keep the faith.....Do not give up, it is what that crook O'Leary wants you to do.

We did a chargeback as soon as we knew our April flight was cancelled. It took a couple of weeks for the bank to process it and Ryanair didn't contest it. It might be an easier way to go.
  • Re chargebacks does anyone know how long you can backdate an application?
We booked flights december 2019 applied for cash refund for may flights in april and finally, just this week Ryanair decided to offer us vouchers instead (of course they would!!) but we want cash returned.  Now down another rabbit hole with them, so thinking of going the credit card route but not sure if we are too late doing this.  Barclays wont tell us if we can or cant and to just fill the form out but concerned this may complicate things with Ryanair.  I f we can do it then obviously thats the route we would take. Thanks in advance to any info, John.

You have 120 days from the date of payment or service provision for a chargeback. So, for May flights, you are still within the time limit (just, if early May).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
