Call from Supreme Court, need advice

I had a letter from One debt collection agency a few days ago for regarding one of my debts, so they have obviously found me at my new address. Earlier this year I got a CCJ for another debt that I didn’t respond to as it was to old address. I’ve had a call yesterday which an automated message saying it was the Supreme Court, I couldn’t make out every thing that was said as the line was bad. I could just hear “ press 1 or you could be arrested”. I pressed 1 then I got cut off. I’m wondering if it could be regarding the CCJ I never dealt with. Could I actually be arrested? Also my debts are credit card and personal loan which are probably regulated by consumer credit act 1974 and I’m not sure but I don’t think that can go to supreme or high court.

  • The Supreme court would not phone you - they would write a letter!

That’s what I thought. I googled the phone number after and Supreme Court in London came up though.

The phone call is a complete scam. Ignore it. If they call again just hang up, don't say anything else.

And no you cannot be arrested for credit card or personal loan debts. (I suspect the call would make some other accusation but it is definitely a scam. The only people likely to threaten to arrest you at your own home would be the police and they would turn up in person.)

    See: https://www.supremecourt.uk/news/telephone-calls-claiming-to-be-from-hmrc.html
"Due to phone number cloning the calls may appear to come from UKSC switchboard ..."
"This is a scam, and if you receive such a call you should not disclose your personal details or hand over any money."

It’s the county court that deal with debt, non consumer credit act debt can be escalated to the high court, but certainly not the Supreme Court, they are the last chance saloon in the appeals process.
The only debts you can be arrested for are unpaid magistrates court fines, and certain tax debts.

Thank you. It’s obviously  a scam. I’ve never had a scam phone call and with the debts I panicked. Thanks
